Referring to a player having no more money in his/her account, or a player being eliminated from a poker tournament.

Money Transfer

Sending/Receiving funds from one player to another through an online poker site.

PF Hand Chart

A chart or graph which shows a player what hands to play in each particular position. Some charts go into greater detail, explaining what to do against limps and raises.

Take a Stand

To not fold in the face of aggression, either to call or raise, generally with out a strong hand.

Slow Down

To stop betting or raising, generally in fear that you are beat.

5-bet

To put in the 5th bet, or 4th raise on a given street. This is typically a shove in NL and only allowed in live limit, where the streets have uncapped betting.

Bluffshove

To go all-in as a bluff, when only better hands will call you. The bluffshove is typically an overbet, meaning the bet is greater than the size of the current pot.

Value Cut

To bet a hand for value, only to find your opponent calls with a better hand. This happens a lot when going for thin value.

Butcher

To play a certain hand poorly, usually resulting in losing the maximum or winning the minimum amount possible.

Stats

Generally referring to PokerTracker or Hold’em Manager statistics, including PFR, VPIP, and Aggression Factors

2nd Nuts

Holding the 2nd best possible poker hand, from example, AhKs on a Ts 7s 5s 4h 2s board.

Open Ender

Slang for an open-ended straight draw, such as 78s on a 5 6 A board.

Noob (n00b)

A player new to the game of poker, someone who has yet to improve at the game.

Newb

A player to new to poker, generally someone who is not skilled at the game.

Sexy

A play originating in Limit Hold’em, where the previous streets aggressor goes for a check raise. For example, you bet the turn and the button calls, you then check-raise the river.

Big Pairs

Referring to pocket pairs preflop, generally pocket Jacks through Aces.

Super Nit

An extremely tight/passive player. This opponent will never raise with out a very strong hand both pre and post flop.

Reg Thread

A topic in a poker forum discussing the regulars at certain stakes. Generally these are low-content threads, which are used to discuss matters besides poker.

Button Masher

A player who does not think before acting, he/she seems to like clicking buttons, as their play has very little merit.

ITT

Acronym for ‘In this topic’ (alt. In this thread).

Blind Battle

Refers to the aggressive nature in hands played between the Small Blind and Big Blind. Players tend to play looser in order to protect their blinds.

Cold 4bet

To put the 3rd raise in PF. Typical action goes Button raises, SB 3bets, and then BB cold 4bets.

Balance (Balanced Range)

Taking a certain action with a wide variety of possible hands. Being balanced makes it much more difficult for your opponent to correctly read your hand.

Overfull

having the nut full house, an extremely strong hand. For example, holding AK on AK4A2 board is an overfull, where pocket 4’s would be an underfull.

LHE

Standard abbreviation for fixed-limit Texas Hold’em.

Nizzles

Slang for the nuts, the best possible hand on a certain board/situation.

Fade

To not get sucked-out on. Having the best hand, typically up against a draw, players will have to "fade" a certain numbers of outs to win the hand.

Dealt Rake

One form of awarding frequent player points is to use a dealt rake system, where every player at the table receives an equal amount of points regardless of who put money in the pot.

Contributed Rake

One form of awarding frequent player points is to use a contributed rake system, where only players who put money into the pot are given points.

TAGGFish

A tight player who only survives off of the fish. His/her PF strategy might be sound; however, they are quite bad postflop, generally very weak/passive.

Check bomb

To check-raise all-in, typically occurs on the turn or river when the pot is bigger.

Turn into a Bluff

Taking a made hand with out much showdown value and deciding to bluff with it. Also known as "turning a made hand into a bluff"

Initiative

Having the betting lead on any given round. This happens by being the last aggressive person on the previous street. For example, raising PF will give you the initiative on the flop.

Check back

To check a street (with the initiative) after your opponent has checked to you.

Face Up

Taking an action with a certain hand where it is very easy for your opponent to discern your holdings.

Linecheck

Looking for advice on a particular line you took during a hand.

B/3b

To bet-3bet, an action where a player bets, gets raises, and then re-raises, which normally results in going all-in.

B/C

To bet-call, an action where a player bets a street and then calls a raise.

B/F

To bet-fold, an action where a player bets any street and then subsequently folds to a raise.

Low Content (LC)

A post or thread in a forum which does not contain much poker content for analysis. These posts typically involve brags or beats, and didn’t involve a difficult decision through out the hand.

Winrate

A poker player’s rate of earn. This is typically calculated in Big Bets won per 100 hands played. For example, a player who wins one buy-in every 1,000 hands has a 5BB/100 winrate.

Spot

Another term for any situation. Typically used when referring to a tough decision.

Close (Close Spot)

A difficult decision which can have multiple correct conclusions. These spots generally happen PF where long-term there won’t be a huge impact on your choices.

Mass Multi-tabling

Playing a significant number of tables, typically 12 or more. These players usually play quite tight and most live off of the rakeback they accumulate.

Dream Flop

A flop which hits your hand, typically making the nuts. For example, hold JT and having the flop come 7 8 9 would be a dream flop.

Session Review

Looking over hand histories from a previous session in hopes of finding errors/mistakes in your play. These reviews can be extremely helpful in improving your game.

Burning Money

Making bad plays which ultimately cost a player significant amounts of money.

Limp Re-raise (LRR)

A play where an opponent limps in pre-flop, is raised, and then re-raises when the action is back upon them.

Bluff Catcher

A fairly weak hand which when faced with a bet only beats a bluff. These hands should typically be folded against passive players and called against more aggressive villains.

Aggro

Another word for aggressive, typically when describing an opponent.

History

The previous situations which have occurred between two players. These past situations can affect the way future spots are handled/played.

Dynamic

The history between two players. This can affect the way each other play against each other is seemingly standard spots.

Unknown

A player who you have no previous history with. This happens a lot at smaller stakes games where the player pool is quite large.

TPWK

Top Pair Weak Kicker, holding Top Pair on the board with a marginal side card. For example, holding A5 on a A J T board.

Gross Spot

A situation where a player is faced with an extremely difficult decision. For example, having two pair on a dangerous board facing a river shove.

Quadfecta

A special play which involves limp/raising PF and then check/raising every street postflop. This typically occurs in Limit Hold’em but has been seen in NL as well.

Trifecta

One of the most elusive plays in limit hold’em, it involves c/r’ing every street post flop for value.

Own (Ownage)

To make a play out of the ordinary which usually involves winning the pot. For example, making a really tough call on the river and being right could be called "owning" your opponent.

Thin Value

Value-betting a medium-strength hand that most might not bet. A good example would be value-betting a weak top pair on the river or even 2nd pair.

Extract

Value-betting on multiple streets with a strong hand.

Breakeven Stretch

A period of time in one’s career where he/she neither wins nor loses a significant amount of money.

Fast-Play

Playing a strong hand in an aggressive manner, which can actually hide some of it’s strength.

Monster Draw

A drawing hand with a large amount of outs. The biggest possible draw is 15 outs, for example, JcTc on a 8c9c3h flop.

IIRC

If I recall correctly, a common acronym used on poker forums.

Look Up

To call a bet/raise in hopes your opponent was bluffing. Typically happens on the river when getting nice pot odds.

Random

A player you have never seen before. While this might happen a lot at lower stakes, randoms are quite rare at higher stakes, as the player pool is considerably smaller.
