Definition
In tournament play, if a player is absent, his chips are said to be anted off. Even though the player is not seated, his blinds and antes are still being deducted from his chip stack.
Example
Phil Hellmuth is traditionally late to the beginning of the World Series of Poker. His chips are anted off during his absence.
