Definition

A bet made that is relatively small in order to prevent your opponent from betting too much if you check and used for pot control to keep the pot smaller. Players use a blocking bet in various situations like trying to draw at a flush or a straight cheaply or just keeping the pot small when you only have a one pair type hand

Example

The flush draw on the turn was perfect for me to use a blocking bet so I could draw cheaply and perhaps get a free showdown on the river
