Definition
A first deposit bonus is bonus money that is offered by a poker site when you make your first deposit. These are often percentages of your first deposit amount and capped at a certain value. First deposit bonuses have varying requirements before the bonus is cleared, meaning that it is not simply free money. Often a player will have to play a set number of raked hands to clear the bonus into their account and will have a limited time period in which to do so, otherwise the bonus will expire.
Example
Full Tilt's first deposit bonus of 100% up to $600 is a common stop on any online poker player's bankroll building journey.
