Definition
To isolate a player is to attempt to see a flop heads up against this player. This is typically done against a player against whom you are confident you can outplay post-flop. Normally this occurs after the player to be isolated has limped and you then raise their limp in position.
Example
Dead money limps from MP, hero raises to 5xbb from the button with A9s. Blinds fold. The dead money has been successfully isolated by hero. Flop comes, dead money checks, hero c-bets, dead money folds.
