Definition
A qualifying system first used by PokerStars to allow players to win seats to major events for as little as $1. There are typically 6 steps, players earn a ticket to a higher step by finishing in the top-2 of the lower step. Higher-stakes players can buy in at any level, and the final two (or sometimes three) players in Step 6 receive a seat to major online or live events.
Example
I qualified for the WCOOP Main Event by winning a Step 6 tournament.
