Definition
A card game where each player is dealt a combination of face-down and face-up cards, with the last several cards dealt one at a time, allowing for betting after each card is dealt. Common variants: 5-card stud: Rarely played anymore, one hole card and one face-up card is dealt to each player, followed by a round of betting, and then the remaining cards are dealt face-up one at a time with a round of betting in between each card. 7-card stud: The most popular stud variant, two hole cards and one face-up card are dealt to each player, followed by a round of betting. Then the remaining cards are dealt face-up one at a time (with the exception of the last card, dealt face down) with a round of betting in between each card. The "S" in "H.O.R.S.E." Stud 8-or-better: 7-card stud, played hi-lo, with an 8-low required to qualify to win a portion of the pot with a low hand. The "E" in "H.O.R.S.E." Razz: 7-card stud, played ace-to-five low. The "R" in "H.O.R.S.E."
