Antonio Esfandiari captured his second WPT Title when he defeated fellow Victory Poker Pro Andrew Robl headsup at the Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Esfandiari bested a stacked final table that included Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso and WSOP Main Event runner-up John Racener.

Robl, who has appeared on Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker, shoved all-in over Esfandiari’s 800,000 open. Esfandiari called 5.5 million more holding KnullJnull. The Magician was in good shape to end the tournament when Robl revealed QnullTnull. A flop of Anull Knull 6null made things interesting. Esfandiari managed to fade Robl’s strong draw on the turn and river and was crowned champion. He received over $870,000 for his win.

Esfandiari was among the chip leaders throughout the tournament but Rousso came into the final table with a commanding chip lead. Two tussles with Robl left her crippled. First, she doubled up Robl when her pocket nines fell to his flush draw plus overcard on the flop. Next, Rousso was forced to fold on a 7null 4null 2null flop after Robl shoved over her 750,000 check raise. Her stack dwindling, the poker beauty pushed all-in on the button with Qnull2null and ran into Esfandiari’s AQ. Neither player improved and Antonio’s ace-high eliminated Rousso in third position.

Racener, who finished in fourth place, was Esfandiari’s first victim. The Tampa native pushed under the gun with his short stack holding Qnull8null and found himself dominated by Esfandiari’s KQ. The Magician flopped top pair and never looked back.

Esfandiari’s win puts him in the elite company of other Doyle Brunson Five Diamond World Poker Classic winners which include Daniel Alaei and Chino Rheem. The victory also ends his six year WPT Title drought that began after he took down the L.A. Poker Classic in 2004. Currently, Antonio is sponsored at Victory Poker, a skin on the Cake Poker Network. His live tournament winnings exceed $4 million.
