Gavin Hanlon claims Tasmanian Poker Championships

 

A capacity field of 80 players took to the tables at the Wrest Point Casino and Hotel, Hobart, for the AUD$290 Main Event at the 2013 Tasmanian Poker Championships. Gavin Hanlon came away victorious following a brilliant displays of poker, claiming the AUD$9,200 first place prize.

 

The event was a surprise sell-out days before it kicked off with 80 players taking part in two one day flights for the AUD$290 Main Event. Rebuys were acceptable which dozens of players gladly used to re-enter following early bust-outs. The overall field was inflated to 92 entrants, after rebuys, which created a AUS$23,000 total prize pool.

 

Gavin Hanlon began the tournament in steady fashion, collecting a healthy stack to put him in control early on. Some aggressive play from Bill Arnol, David Bowan, Walter Digiorio and Michael Males put up some resistance but Hanlon endured to claim the 2013 title.

Jackie Glazier becomes a member of Team888

 

In this years 2013 World series of Poker Jackie Glazier found herself deep into the tournament with only one more day to endure before the ‘November Nine’ was set. She ended up finishing 31st taking home USD$229,281 and a new sponsorship contract with 888 Poker.

 

Australia’s best finisher at this years WSOP, Glazier is clearly the golden girl of Australian Poker following the finish which also gave her the title of “Last woman standing”. With a total of USD$1,188,451 in tournament winnings which includes almost USD$500,000 from her runner-up finish in a USD$3,000 NLHE during the 2012 WSOP along with a Venetian Deep Stack win and Melbourne Poker Champions title to name but a few winning creditis. Glazier is clearly no flash in the pan one-time star, she is a consistent, strong and talented player who now needs to be closely watched.

 

Glazier said following the 888 announcement “I am so excited to be joining Team888 poker, I look forward to heaps of fun playing poker all around the world with such a great group of people”.

 

Glazier joins a roster which includes fellow Aussie cricket legend Shane Warne with her first tournament as a Team888 member coming at the WSOP Europe in Paris, France where she will play in the €10,450 Main Event.

2013 APPT Melbourne schedule announced

 

The full 2013 APPT Melbourne tournament schedule has been released with 11 championship events over 16 days which will be hosted at the Crown Poker Room in Melbourne’s Crown Casino and Hotel, Australia.

 

The event will kick off on 25 August with the always popular AUD$50 NLHE Accumulator event which offers a guarantee AUD$50,000 prize pool. The opening week is set to provide players with an unprecedented 10 opening flights, which is completely unheard of in the poker world. Other tournaments include a AUD$350 7-Game Event, a AUD$350 Mix-Max Event and a AUD$550 Pot Limit Omaha Event. The popular AUD$1,650 Six-Handed Event will bring in the crowds before the star of the show, the AUD$3,000 APPT Melbourne Main Event which gets underway on Thursday 5 September.

 

Busting out early from the Main Event doesn’t mean your Melbourne APPT is over as a AUD$550 Bounty Event, AUD$550 Deepstack Event, AUD$350 Shot Clock Terminator Event, AUD$300 Tag Team Event and the AUD$250 The Rail Event will run alongside the Main Event.
