The Breeders’ Cup Classic is the highlight of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships and will be held this year on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs in Lexington, Ky. This year is especially exciting as undefeated Zenyatta is scheduled to defend her title. Zenyatta, a 5-year-old mare trained by John Shirreffs, is one of the Breeders’ Cup Classic’s top contenders. Last year, she became the first female horse to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and did so with a thrilling last-to-first stretch run. Even more incredible is Zenyatta’s streak of 19 straight wins; one more victory and she will break the North American record for most consecutive wins.

Does any horse have what it takes to defeat Zenyatta? The field for the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic is full of talent. Blame, a 4-year-old colt trained by Al Stall, Jr., has won five of his last six races and is one of the favorites for an upset. Also coming into the race strongly is Musket Man, a 4-year-old Derek Ryan trainee, who hasn’t finished worse than third all year. Todd Pletcher’s Quality Road is a 4-year-old speedster who has won four of five races in 2010. And don’t forget about 3-year-old Lookin at Lucky, who won the Triple Crown’s Preakness Stakes this summer under trainer Bob Baffert. But Zenyatta has been untouchable throughout her storied career and will be the clear favorite going into the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
