Another Final Table for Watson while Duhamel reaches the top

Michael “SirWatts” Watson has made yet another World Series of Poker final table with a fifth place finish, on Canada Day, in Event 53 USD$1,500 No Limit Hold’em. Watson managed to navigate through a deep field of  2,816 players collecting an impressive USD$153,000 for his hard work.

Watson’s fifth place finish is his third final table and fourth top ten finish of this summer putting him close to USD$250,000 up over his deep finishes. His recent run of great form has seen him skyrocket up the Player of The Year standings, moving into first for Bluff while climbing into the top ten under the CardPlayer ranking system. Once the system updates the recent results it will see Watson jump into the lead for the GlobalPoker Index POY.

The impressive Canadian is obviously on a rich vain of form and at the top of his game, look for him to go deep into the Main Event with another Bracelet not to be sniffed at.

WSOP Canadian Up-date

With Watson and Duhamel sitting pretty in their respective finishes and events other Canadians are challenging for some titles at the World Series of Poker.

Jumping to event 54 USD$1,000 NL Hold’em Day Three presents St. Johns Newfoundland Jason Bigelow managing to defy the poker gods and finish runner-up following his entry into the final 14 as the short stack with as little as five big blinds. Bigelow has bested a field which began with 2,883 entries to come up short losing to Dana Castaneda, who is the first woman to win an “open” event since Vanessa Selbst more than five years ago.

Event 56 USD$2,500 NL Hold’em currently sits with just 23 players from the starting field of 1,736. Winnipeg’s Mark Golub, who currently is the fifth largest stack on Day three, could make Canadian Poker History by becoming the first Manitoban to claim a WSOP Bracelet. Halifax’s Owen Crowe is also within touching distance of his maiden WSOP Bracelet which would finally silence those who continue to brand him “one of the best players out there yet to win a Bracelet.”

Event 57 USD$5,000 NL Hold’em has Quebec’s own Carter Swindler sitting in 13th position with double Bracelet winner Mark Radoja in 24th.
