Another great FTOPS event is in the books, and we have another 6 figure winner. Bruce Buffer, the brother of famed ring announcer Micheal Buffer, who is quite famous himself too as a UFC ring announcer and several other endeavors including poker and WSOP, was today’s Full Tilt Pro host.
Today’s event was a special one. It was a knockout superstacked 6-max, better known as the FTOPS XI Event #8. For every knockout you got $40. Knock 6 people out and you made your buy-in back. All the big names of Full Tilt Poker made their presence felt, including, among many, Brandon Adams, Erick Lindgren, Mike Matusow, Ram Vaswani, Ryan Daut and David “The Dragon” Pham.
The whole event had a ton of great action, including many crazy bluffs and big bet all-ins. The final table promised to be even more exciting and an action packed final table it was.
Since this was a superstack 6-max tournament, the pre-flop reraising action was much more intense entering our final 6. You absolutely could not let up, or you would be eaten by the more aggressive players. It was a pretty fun thing to watch, but also, pretty intense.
On the final table bubble, Roothlus (the guy who got into an intense tussle with Phil Hellmuth during the 2008 WSOP ME Coverage) stepped up to the plate. But Chancew delivered the pitch, and struck him out looking. 7th and 8th place share the same prize, a nice $17,026.46, meaning $17k plus 25 bucks to go to the movies.
6 players entered the promised land (the final table) guns blazing, but just one emerged victorius. The chip counts were as follows:

The blinds at the outset of this final table were 30,000/60,000/7,500, so there was still a lot of poker left to be played.
TPEHEP was the first to go. With blinds at 40k/80k/10k ante, it is folded to USCphildo who raised it to 220k. 2 fold, and TPEHEP called in the BB for 140k more. The flop came 5♠ K♥ K♦. TPEHEP checked it to USCphildo, who then minbets out for 80k. TPEHEP called. The turn was a 9♠. TPEHEP checked again, and USCphildo once again bet out small, this time for 2x BB or 160k. TPEHEP then made his move for this hand. He raised it to 480k, and USCphildo called the 320k more after some deliberation. The river was the 7♣. TPEHEP then lead out for 560k into the pot. USCphildo requested time, and shoved. TPEHEP called relatively quickly, and USCphildo then tabled the A♥K♣ for the winning trips and TPEHEP mucked his hand. He took $26,466 for his efforts, not bad at all.
Next, Chancew stepped up to the mound, delivered a pitch to Alfa Alex and struck him out looking. It was folded to Chancew (well over 4M in chips) in the big blind, who then effectively shoved over Alfa Alex (a little over 1M in chips) in the SB. Blinds were 50k/100k/10k ante. Alfa Alex then proceeded to make a good call, showing A♦ 9♥ slightly ahead of Chancew’s K♦ T♦. The board played out 7♥ 8♣ 5♣ 9♣ K♣, and Alfa Alex went home in 5th place, receiving a $38.816.80 award. Congratulations!
FTR’s own Micheal1123 was enjoying an easy ride, but the blinds started creeping up. Good tournament poker indicates that you have to do everything in your power to avoid being a victim of the blinds, and to reach this prestigious final table, you are absolutely required to have excellent knowledge of good tournament poker. So, he had to make his move pronto. With blinds still at 50k/100k/10k ante, it folded to Micheal1123 who raised it to 300k in the SB. RSGII called in the BB for 200K more.
The flop came 9♠ 9♦ Q♣. Micheal1123, first to act, bet 300k into the pot. RSGII called. The turn was a 5♦. Micheal1123 checked. RSGII then bet out 600,000. Micheal1123 then thought for a second, and raised to about 1.5M all-in. RSGII did not hesitate, and called the 900k extra bet lightning quick. Micheal1123 then tabled the 8♠ 8♣, massively behind to RSGII’s T♠ 9♣. The river bricked in the form of a 4♥, and Micheal1123 went out in 4th place, earning him a cool $52,932 for his efforts. Not bad at all for a day’s work. And thanks for representing FTRers at this prestigious final table.
Now there were only three players left, and huge six-figure paydays were at the line. Two players would get six figures tonight, the other would go home still rich, but not quite as rich as the other two.
Since the start of the final table, USCphildo was commandeering the action. While at the start there were not any stacks that would really stand out, he quickly built himself one commanding stack courtesy of the first final table knockout of the evening.
But, some things do not always go the way you want them to. When it got down to three handed, the following disaster hand took place.
RSGII raised 3x BB to 360K. USCphildo then immediately reraised to 1,200,000. RSGII then called for 840K more. Chancew quickly got out of the way, and let the two big stacks collide with each other. The flop came a 4♦ 7♠ J♣. USCphildo let the clock run down, then bet a little less than half the pot, around 835K. RSGII then immediately proceeded to do the classic Scandinavian minraise to 1,670,000. USCphildo was clearly a non-believer, and immediately raised to about 6,900,000 all-in. RSGII thought about it for a second, and then called. RSGII, at this point, had the slight chip advantage over USCphildo, covering him by a little less than 1M chips.
USCPhildo then tabled A♦ K♥, behind and in desperate need of help against RSGII’s K♣ J♦. The board ran out a harmless 5♠ turn and a 8♠ river, and USCphildo, the once dominant chip leader, was sent home packing in 3rd place, pocketing $71,634.64 for a Sunday of work. Congratulations!
Today started with a field of 4,411. Day became night, and after more than 8 and a half hours after the beginning of the tournament there were only 2 left, both gunning for the first prize and the bragging rights of having won an FTOPS event. RSGII started with a huge chip lead over Chancew and started pushing him around left and right. But after quite some back and forth waltzing, a pivotal hand came up. RSGII raised an uncharacteristic 5x bb to 800K pf first to act, but then Chancew reraised to an even more uncharacteristic 2,500,000. RSGII then called. The flop came all K 9 J. Chancew bet about half the pot, around 3,000,000. RSGII deliberated for a little, and then moved over the top! It cost Chancew an additional 3,000,000 to call, and he did so, tabling A♥ A♠ while RSGII tabled K♥ T♥. The board ran out all low turns and rivers, and Chancew doubled up massively, reversing RSGII’s 11:9 chip lead to a 2:18 chip disadvantage
After this hand, it would not take long for the tournament to end. RSGII was left with only about 6BB’s, and he went into push-fold mode. The final hand looked like this:
And then RSGII was eliminated in 2nd place, earning him $103,217.40 for his efforts tonight. Chancew took down the whole event, coming victorious out of a field of 4,411 hopefuls with the FTOPS XI event #8 crown and a cool $168,517.84 for an investment of just $256.
