The World Series of Poker Main Event is starting to get personal for FlopTurnRiver as, with slightly under eighty players still remaining, our very own Mark Meloche is fighting for the bracelet. Day seven kicks off tomorrow and he’ll have no shortage of supporters from all around the world.

The Canadian poker pro has dabbled in live tournaments before, with a cash in the BC Poker Championships in 2009 being his most notable placing. While this may not be as impressive a tournament record as held by other remaining competitors, Meloche is certainly no rookie. Going by the screenname “meeloche”, he regularly destroys online mid-stakes, and earns his living on the cash tables. He’s also a regular on the FlopTurnRiver strategy forums, where he moderates the Short Handed NLHE forum and provides great advice for aspiring players and experienced grinders alike.

This year’s WSOP Main Event started with 7,319 hopefuls players, but as Day Six drew to a close only 78 remained. Meloche will be sitting at 46th in chips as Day Seven commences later today, with a chip stack that admittedly is below average but is very definitely still healthy. Still being alive this deep in the tournament is a very impressive feat in and of itself, and in doing so he has outlasted an impressive array of talented players, including seasoned pro and two-time Main Event winner Johnny Chan, who was eliminated yesterday during Day Six. At this point Meloche is guaranteed $94,942 in prize money, but has the potential to go much deeper.

All in all it’s been an impressive showing by FlopTurnRiver at this year’s WSOP. Earlier in the series Adrian “chardrian” Dresel-Velasquez, who moderates the Multi-Table-Tournament forum on FTR, walked away with an impressive fifth place finish in a Limit Hold’Em event. Identical twins and FTR regulars Max and Danny Steinberg have also been making names for themselves, with Max finishing second in a $1500 NLHE event and making it to the fourth day of the Main Event. Danny made it all the way to the fifth day before being knocked out in 395th place. Check out our strategy forums and maybe next year it could be you making the headlines!

The battle is by no means over, but whatever is still to come Mark Meloche has done extremely well in making it this far. That said, all of FlopTurnRiver wish him the best of luck in the rest of the tournament, and will be following the updates with baited breath as he moves his way closer and closer to the $8.9 million first prize. Check out the rail thread in the FTR Community Forum for more updates and to voice your support.
