The full schedule for the latest Full Tilt Online Poker Series has been unveiled, revealing another solid collection of tournaments across all of poker’s major disciplines. FTOPS XV is the first of four predicted series for 2010 and the first major online festival of the decade. Twenty-seven events are packed into 11 days, contributing to a total of $17 million in guaranteed prize money.
The FTOPS has a history of getting bigger and better with every iteration. Back in 2006, the original series was a simple 8 event affair, with only $1 million guaranteed. The 15th FTOPS is even an improvement over last year, with a small jump from $16 million to $17 million guaranteed.
The released schedule holds no big surprises and looks to build on an event package that has become a mainstay in the online tournament community. The famous FTOPS Main Event sits, as ever, on the final day of the tournament, featuring a $535 buy-in and $2.5 million guaranteed. Another stalwart, the two-day event, is back with a vengeance. Over February 20th – 21st, $2,500 will buy you into this prestigious tournament and give you a shot at the $2 million guarantee added by Full Tilt.
There are tournaments of all shapes and sizes for Hold ’em, Omaha, Stud, and Razz, and players who fancy themselves all round experts can test their mettle with H.O.R.S.E. and 7-game events. In addition to the standard freezeouts and rebuys, there are a variety of different structures and tournament styles. Knockout tournaments reward players for eliminating opponents, while the Full Tilt exclusive Cashout events allow anyone to cash in their chips and withdraw from the tournament at any point. 6-max, shootout, and heads up all return to round out the selection.
The FTOPS XIV Main Event attracted a record 5,471 players, and awarded a post-chop $418,000 to zhivago2 in 1st place. He also picked up a limited edition FTOPS jacket, which is awarded to every player who makes the final table. In addition, the winner of each tournament gets their own gold FTOPS XV jersey and a special gold avatar. You can also get your hands on a custom avatar by finishing top of the FTOPS XV leaderboard. Prove yourself the most consistent player across the whole series and you’ll be rewarded with an $8,500 prize package, including entry into every FTOPS XVI event (excluding the two-day tournament).
With buy-ins from $120 to $2,500, the FTOPS might seem out of reach for the average player. Of course, there are thousands of satellites to try your hand at, but those with a more modest bankroll might want to save their money for the MiniFTOPS XV. This diminutive copy of the main FTOPS runs from March 10th to 21st and features the same calendar of events with 10% of the buy-in cost. It has over $6 million guaranteed and is sure to provide the kind of big money tournament action lower stakes players often miss out on.
There are still a few details yet to be revealed, but the 15th Full Tilt Online Poker Series looks set to be another successful event. It is tradition for one of the many Full Tilt Pros to host each tournament, but it is not currently known which player will be assigned to which event. Poker fans will be hoping to see new Red Pro Tom “durrrr” Dwan called up to host his very first FTOPS tournament.
