Game 5 of the Gauntlet was this Sunday, and it was good old fashioned no-limit hold’em. The number of players hasn’t started to level off yet, as 28 people registered which has been about the average for the year. If you are unsure what the Gauntlet is, check out the end of this article for information on how to register. You can play against FTR’s biggest players, for just $11 – twice per week!

As always, we will start things off with the new changes in the leaderboard after game 4. Keep in mind this board is always one game behind, they are the standings prior to game 5, and the next article will show the standings after game 5, etc. We don’t need another isop incident people. Anyway, getting to it, we see nutsinho is still king:

FTR Name – GP – Points / Change
nutsinho – 3 – 356.10 / 0
spin_md – 3 – 334.60 / +2
givememyleg – 3 – 284.29 / -1
GatorJH – 2 – 244.49 / -1
drmcboy – 2 – 188.05 / +2
Nicovelz – 3 – 169.54 / +5
kmind – 2 – 163.35 / +5
Shifubowa – 2 – 156.26 /-3
Fimanoid – 3 – 139.88 / +3
d0zer – 3 – 139.16 / -1

There continues to be a lot of movement in the middle/bottom of the leaderboard. The only spot that hasn’t changed so far this season is number 1, as nutsinho has had a 1st, 10th, and 4th place finish and has been racking up the points. After spins win last week he was able to take over my 2nd place spot, even though I had taken third. Kmind jumped up quite a bit after his runner up finish, but there is still plenty of time to make your move. Remember, you’re allowed 16 games this season compared to 12 so be sure to get all your games in for maximum points!

As Lee Jones yelled shuffle up and deal, 28 FTR member’s were registered making the prize pool $280. Of these 28, some Gauntlet VII virgins included Skeeno, Seasider (PokerStars Grace Note), and the drunk micro stakes king XTR1000. Of the current top 10, spinswell, givememyleg, and d0zer were absent; but the other 7 were there try and improve their position.

This games article will be different than the past, as I will begin the action at the start of the final table. This is because I missed the action myself and have to go through a hand history. I may start doing this for all future articles as well, so if you want to be mentioned, you have to make it deep (sorry Spenda). As we begin, not too surprisingly we see some familiar faces in the final 9:

XTR1000 (7415 in chips)
nutsinho (6646 in chips)
Forty2u (6065 in chips)
I_Lie_2_U (5838 in chips)
GatorJH (4213 in chips)
Grace Note (4069 in chips)
skeenobeener (3905 in chips)
meeloche (2009 in chips)
triplej74 (1840 in chips)

Does nutsinho ever not make a final table? He was sitting comfortably in second, right behind the drunken XTR1000. The bottom stacks meeloche and triplej74 had some work to do as blinds were already at 125/250/25 and they were nearly in panic mode. The first hand we saw a battle between some of the leaders:

There’s a lot of chat in the way of that, but Galapogos (I_Lie_2_U) pretty much summed it up with his mom and dad comment. After the hand nuts said he folded QQ, and TLR (Forty2u) said “should have called, I had T3o.”

In the middle of the pack was Seasider (Grace Note) and I hadn’t seen how he made it to the final table, but in the chat Galapogos warned “don’t flip against Grace, he flops sets.” Well, that won’t hold true at the final table, because in 2 hands, he would be out:

Bad run for Seasider, and he was out in 9th place. The table was being pretty aggressive as a whole, but there weren’t many showdowns. The Gauntlet usually does have a lot of aggro action compared to other donkaments you may play in, and here we see a resteal gone bad:

Skeeno would finish in 8th place when he couldn’t find himself a 5. You can see nutsinho and TLR are still going back and forth about that QQ v T3o hand, and they won’t stop talking about as we move to the next hand:

meeloche: folds
Uncalled bet (1250) returned to Forty2u

TLR had a great start to the final table and he had increased his stack to just under 9k. However, nutsinho doesn’t seem like he was respecting his play:

Forty2u said, “I suck at cash games”
nutsinho said, “are u good at anything?”

Looking at the chip counts, it was clear who was in panic mode at this point. Outlaw (triplej74) was down to just 890 chips, and had to shove (actually had to shove about 1000 chips ago!) and picked his spot against nutsinho:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Outlaw ended up being the bubble boy and the players were now in the money! They were guaranteed at least a huge $15.40 payday. Down to 6, the chips had shifted around a bit, but not much had changed in position

XTR1000 (11670 in chips)
Forty2u (8710 in chips)
I_Lie_2_U (6938 in chips)
nutsinho (5716 in chips)
meeloche (5303 in chips)
GatorJH (3663 in chips)

XTR was still king and he hadn’t done much except eliminate Seasider. The blinds were still 125/250/25 so there was plenty of room for play and it wouldn’t just be a push/fold match. Speaking of play, here begins a rivalry between nutsinho and Galapogos:

Well he didn’t have 82o but he did fold the better hand. This may have tilted him a bit, but the next hand he picked up a monster and tried to play the “fake tilt” card:

It was the classic AK v AK and meeloche and Galapogos chopped up TLR’s call and the blinds/antes. I wonder if TLR hand T3 again that hand? TLR had slipped a bit but was still near the top, that is until he played a big pot with XTR1000:

He was now the chip leader! That mis-step by XTR brought him down to around 5k chips and was the first time he gave up his chip lead since the final table began. GatorJH found himself at another final table, but was pretty much a ghost so far. He was short stacked and waiting for a hand, or hands, to push with:

He shoved 3 out of 5 hands and was finally called by XTR, who was dominated. This gave Gator a nice stack, and left FTR with just 500 chips. The very next hand he pushed in the rest of his stack and was called in 2 spots:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Or maybe not. XTR1000 finished in 6th place for $15.40. Back to Gator, he was still going all-in:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

nutsinho said, “guess ill fold best hand”

Right after this hand, meeloche had some sort of emergency to deal with:

meeloche said, “ok so i have sorta a situation i have to deal with so i have to leave”
meeloche said, “do you want me to get blinded out or should i chip dump?”
GatorJH said, “chip dump to me”
I_Lie_2_U said, “shoulda called me there!”
nutsinho said, “blind out imo”
meeloche said, “thats what i was thinking as well”
meeloche is sitting out
meeloche said, “gg guys”

So with 5 people left meeloche would be sitting out for the remainder of the tournament. Blinds were at 150/300/25 and he had 5,200 chips so it would be sometime before he actually was eliminated. But the game would continue, and we would see the pretty big multi-way pot:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Nutsinho’s 900 chip bet was enough to take down the 3k pot. Later Galapogos found himself on the button with AA, and got very unlucky:

No action! It looked like a prime time for him to be stealing since meeloche was sitting out, but too bad for him nutsinho didn’t play back. However, a few hands later, he would get some action:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

TLR (Forty2u) made a creative call and Gala’s tens would hold up. TLR must have put him on a squeeze attempt or something and took a chance with the dog – but came up short. Galapogos now had a new life and was the chip leader with over 12k in chips. Sitting right behind him was the man who just doubled him up, TLR, with 10k and Gator with just under 10k. The next hand can only be described as beautiful for Gala:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

It’s nice having KK on the button and all the work alreayd being done for you! Gator couldn’t find a way to suckout, and was down in 5th place for $21 and another 78 points to add to his total. At this point 4 people were left, but action was 3 way with meeloche sitting out. Galapogos was massive chip leader, and nutsinho had to act fast with only 10 bbs:

I_Lie_2_U (23384 in chips)
Forty2u (11849 in chips)
nutsinho (3967 in chips)
meeloche (2800 in chips) is sitting out

Blinds were now 200/400/50 so meeloche had an M of 4.3 meaning he would be eliminated in another 4.3 rounds. Nutsinho and TLR were both still alive so continued their battle:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

I_Lie_2_U: folds

meeloche: folds

Forty2u: shows [8s Jh] (a pair of Sevens)
nutsinho: shows [Qh Jc] (a pair of Sevens – Queen kicker)
nutsinho collected 4634 from pot
nutsinho said, “jon i hate u”

Somehow he found a way to hold and doubled up with queen high. I’m assuming what he means about hating Jon is triptanes who must have been rooting strongly for an 8. Just a few hands later meeloche had his last few chips in and was eliminated in 4th place for $28 and 88 points. Down to 3 way it was pretty obvious who had the advantage:

I_Lie_2_U (30484 in chips)
nutsinho (5784 in chips)
Forty2u (5732 in chips)

It looked like it would be a race for 2nd between nutsinho and TLR (Forty2u) as Galapogos (I_Lie_2_U) had 70% of the chips in play. The very next hand, the final chapter would be written in the nutsinho vs TLR war:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Uncalled bet (52) returned to nutsinho
*** RIVER *** [3c 4d 5d 4h] [8h]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Forty2u: shows [Kd 5s] (two pair, Fives and Fours)

nutsinho collected 11914 from pot

I_Lie_2_U said, “gl”
nutsinho said, “gg”

Aces for nutsinho ended TLR’s day in 3rd place for $42 and 101 points. This is the 2nd time nutsinho had made it to the final 2 in 4 games, which is just sick. Down to heads up, Galapogos had nearly a 3:1 chip lead against nuts, 30k to 12k. And the very first hand it looked like it could be over right away:

Seat 2: I_Lie_2_U (30034 in chips)
Seat 5: nutsinho (11966 in chips)

nutsinho said, “now i dont like my play anymore”
I_Lie_2_U said, “i dont like mine either tbh”
nutsinho said, “ugh”
nutsinho said, “table talk”
nutsinho: folds
Uncalled bet (26629) returned to I_Lie_2_U
I_Lie_2_U said, “thats not saying i have a bad hand”
I_Lie_2_U collected 6810 from pot
I_Lie_2_U: doesn’t show hand

Gala’s hand has been exposed now and nutsinho made a correct fold with JT. For the next few hands it was raise/fold and neither player wanted to get too involved. That is until Gala shipped Q2:

Seat 2: I_Lie_2_U (33439 in chips)
Seat 5: nutsinho (8561 in chips)
I_Lie_2_U: posts the ante 50
nutsinho: posts the ante 50

nutsinho: shows [7d 7s] (a pair of Sevens)
I_Lie_2_U collected 17122 from pot

Whether or not he sucks, he was the game 5 winner taking home $103 and scoring 176 points! Nutsinho won $70 and added another 124 points to his already large lead over the rest of the field. Congratulations to Galapogos and special thanks to him and Dwarfman for sending me their hand histories! Now for the hands of the night (since I wasn’t here and didn’t see the Gauntlet, I have to choose only hands from the final table):

Too bad for Gator here as he ran flat into the kings of Galapogos.

WTF was he Thinking?

meeloche said, “ok so i have sorta a situation i have to deal with so i have to leave”
meeloche said, “do you want me to get blinded out or should i chip dump?”
GatorJH said, “chip dump to me”
I_Lie_2_U said, “shoulda called me there!”
nutsinho said, “blind out imo”
meeloche said, “thats what i was thinking as well”
meeloche is sitting out
meeloche said, “gg guys”

For the first time ever this award goes to an actual person and not a hand; meeloche. There must have been a good reason for him to leave with 5 players left and a decent stack!

Of course it had to go to the Q2 v 77, which was the final hand. After the tournament, here was the discussion between nutsinho and Galapogos in the Game Summaries thread:

nutsinho: Q2o?????????????????????????
Galapogos: All that was going through my head was: How cool would it be if he folded and I could show him Q2o and explode his head to get him back for that Q4o 3-bet earlier? It would have been so worth it! Sucking out huge to win it was also nice I guess.
nutsinho: lol nh
