Game 6 of the FTR Gauntlet VII was the second shorthanded event of the season. If it was going to be anything similar to game 2, there would have to be a lot of action right from the start. Well, as I expected, that is just what happened. The average players showed up, 27 total. If you are unsure what the Gauntlet is, check out the end of this article for information on how to register. You can play against FTR’s biggest players, for just $11 – twice per week!

For the first time, we didn’t see much jumping around on the leaderboard. There also was only 1 different person from last game, and that of course was Mr. Q2. Let’s have a look at the standings going into game 6:

FTR Name – GP – Points / Change
nutsinho – 4 – 480.60 / 0
spin_md – 3 – 334.60 / 0
GatorJH – 3 – 323.23 / +1
Galapogos – 3 – 299.06 / +7
givememyleg – 3 – 284.29 / -2
drmcboy – 3 – 221.32 / -1
Shifubowa – 3 – 211.94 / +1
Nicovelz – 4 – 207.96 / -2
kmind – 3 – 198.56 / -2
Fimanoid – 4 – 185.34 / -1

Nutsinho and spin_md are still in the 1 – 2 spot, and GatorJH ended up taking over 3rd from me. Galapogos shot up to 4th place after his luckbox win in game 5. The rest didn’t change much, except for a few up and downs.

As I said earlier, 27 people showed up making the prize pool $270 and awarding the eventual winner with one of the best things money can’t buy, 172.89 points. Everyone got started quickly, and it was a great early start for some, but not so great for others. First and foremost, let’s have a look at the cobere32 meltdown:

Mashey took out Wildbob in 26th place, and finished off Alexos the next hand, who only had 55 chips left, in 25th place. Bob sure does like the Gauntlet so far this season! That was a nice few pots for Mashey and he quickly became the early chip leader. It must have been rookie night, because another Gauntlet virgin, ifcation, who just joined FTR on May 31 started to go on his own little heater:

It’s too bad, if gametight folded I would have raised and knocked out spenda fish from the tournament. A few orbits later, I finished my goal of eliminating all Aussie’s out of the Gauntlet:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

That would do it for gametight, finishing in 11th place. Spenda had a new life, and was feeling good. But then he made the mistake of getting his chips in against mcatdog:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Poor spenda, he finished in 10th place and shipped me the last longer bet (again, ez money). At this point, mcatdog now took over the chip lead and was sitting with close to 10k. Shifubowa had been quietly sitting at the table waiting for a hand, and eventually he would find more than 1:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Those were back to back hands, and one of them eliminated me in 9th place. Shif went from 3000 chips to 11k and now he held the chip lead. Although mcat had blundered a bit, he definitely wasn’t out, and it was Nicovelz that would realize that:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Nico would be done in 8th place. There was now 7 people left and the players were on the final table bubble. However, it didn’t last very long because Shifubowa burst it a few hands later:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
spinswell: raises 2037 to 2237 and is all-in
Shifubowa: calls 2137
mcatdog: folds

*** SHOW DOWN ***
Shifubowa: shows [Ac Jc] (two pair, Aces and Tens)

We now hand the final 6! Here were the chip counts going into the final table:

Shifubowa (14221 in chips)
mcatdog (8918 in chips)
ification (8727 in chips)
Roco415 (4215 in chips)
kmind (3851 in chips)
Outlaw (568 in chips)

Blinds were due to raise 125/250 soon, so everyone wasn’t in too bad shape – minus Outlaw. However, it was shorthanded play so everyone wouldn’t be able to be as patient as they would during full ring. Outlaw was deadly short, and the 2nd han, had to push:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
ification: folds
toddanderson: folds
triplej74: raises 293 to 543 and is all-in
Roco415: folds
mcatdog: raises 457 to 1000

And that was it for Outlaw, in 6th place. The first big pot came between mcatdog and kmind, when kmind attempted, and failed, a bluff re-steal:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
Roco415: folds
mcatdog: raises 350 to 600
Shifubowa: folds
ification: calls 475
toddanderson: raises 2476 to 3076 and is all-in

Well I guess he didn’t fail completely. That bad beat took a bit out of mcat’s stack, but it doesn’t matter as long as you double up in the next couple hands:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
toddanderson said, “i don’t know what to say, saying sorry is gay”
ification: folds

Mcatdog had to have the craziest roller coaster ride with his chip stack this tournament, losing and winning more double ups than I had seen. Now the pack seemed to even out a bit, except for Roco who was still short:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
mcatdog: folds
Shifubowa: folds

He spoke way too soon, and doubled up. But it would be short lived, 2 hands later kmind and Roco were all-in again:

*** HOLE CARDS ***
ification: folds

Roco415: raises 3026 to 5980 and is all-in

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Roco was done in 5th place. There was plenty of re-stealing going on, but for the most part everyone was sitting back and waiting. That is of course until mcat won 2 back to back pots:

*** HOLE CARDS ***

Just like that, mcatdog had eliminated Shifubowa in 4th place and kmind in 3rd place; in back to back hands! Shif was the money bubble boy, but earned 86 points and kmind took home $54 and 99.82 points. When heads up play began, mcat had a 3:1 chip lead over ification:

Seat 2: mcatdog (29964 in chips)
Seat 4: ification (10536 in chips)

It was clear who the aggressor, as mcatdog was really putting ification to the test. Mcat scooped up the first 14 out of 18 hands, without showing down and rarely seeing a flop. Eventually ification had it with being bullied, and called of his whole stack with ten high:

However, he hit an 8 and now we had a game. Mcat still had a slight lead, but it was much closer now:

Seat 2: mcatdog (23176 in chips)
Seat 4: ification (17324 in chips)

Seat 2: mcatdog (8802 in chips)
Seat 4: ification (31698 in chips)

But with the way the tournament had been going for mcatdog, I wouldn’t count him out. His stack had been going from high and low plenty of times, and this was no different:

Now AGAIN they changed chip positions. I’ve never seen people flip flop so many times! They had been playing heads up for 30 minutes and saw about 85 hands, and both held the chip lead numerous times. We hardly ever saw a showdown unless it was an all-in, so this hand was like a treat:
