Event 16 of the FTOPS VII took place on February 15th at 21:00 and the name of the game was Stud. This was the first and only stud event of the series (not counting Razz), and since it is a dying game, nothing too much was expected. It was $215 buy-in with $100,000 guaranteed and it barely surpasses that. 565 players came to play this old game for a total prize pool of $113,000 making this the smallest FTOPS event by far.

This stud event was hosted by Full Tilt pro David Chiu. He is a professional player who plays mostly live poker and has been playing poker as his career since 1981. Since then he has won 3 WSOP bracelets and has over $2.8 million in tournament winnings. He is known as one of the best limit hold’em players in the world, and even has a bracelet in stud making him a great host for this event. However, it wasn’t his night as he wasn’t one of the 64 people to place in the money. No other Full Tilt Pros finished in the money either.  64th place would end up being worth $474.60, while the final table was $1,695 up to $26,204 for the winner.

Events like this are much tougher, since a lot of the fish stick to no-limit hold’em and have no desire to play limit stud. There aren’t nearly as many satellites for these events either, so that leaves the fish that have the money or the pros who know stud. Of course there are always those willing to take a shot without much experience, but for the most part you won’t find as many donks at your table. That being said, most of the final table were unknown players. Most of the pros primarily focus on Omaha and Hold’em, and like I said before, stud is a dying game. Of the final 8, Dantes_11 and carsonanchad are known for other large MTT scores, but there wasn’t much on the other 6.

Unfortunately for them, their experience wouldn’t help them tonight as carsonanchad was the first out in 8th place, and Dantes_11 went in 4th place. The final three were mikeyb444, metaphyzix, and a_zuzolo who were competing for the $26k first place prize. When all the chips had finally changed hands, it was metaphyzix who was declared the winner of the $216 Stud Event 16 of the FTOPS VII! Congratulations to him and everyone who made a final table in this small tournament!
