The price to play high stakes poker just went up.  GSN announced that for season five of their hit show, High Stakes Poker, players will be required to buy-in for a minimum of $200,000.  Last season, the regular buy-in was $100,000, although they did have a few episodes near the end of the season where the buy-in was a cool half-million.

There had originally been some speculation that there would not even be a season five of High Stakes Poker.  At the end of last season, the hosts, Gabe Kaplan and A.J. Benza, weren’t even sure what was going to happen with the show.  However, in the end, GSN did come through and announce that the show would be back and better than ever.  Participants have not yet been announced, but taping should take place between December 19th and 21st.  We can expect to see some of the most well known high stakes players in the world, no doubt.  In seasons past we’ve seen the likes of David Benyamine, Daniel Negreanu, Guy Laliberte, Gus Hansen, Mike Matusow, Sammy Farha, Phil Helmuth, and a whole lot more.

This year we will also see a new home for the high stakes game.  The Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas will host some of the world’s best players in the highest stakes cash games on television.  Just when the episodes will begin airing has not yet been announced, although the educated guess seems to be that we should start seeing new episodes around February of next year.
