Patrik Antonius had a nice time at the tables yesterday as he finished up nearly $300k in a session lasting just under an hour and a half.

What was most likely to be the largest pot of the day began with Phil Ivey raising to $3k from the button. Antonius called from the small blind but then Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan reraised to $12k from the big blind. Ivey folded his cards and the action was back to Antonius who raised it up to $39k, but this prompted a shove from Dwan which pushed the bet up to $97,751. Antonius called and showed Ad Kh, which was in bad shape against Dwan’s Kd Ks. The flop came Ac Jd 8c and Antonius hit one of his three outs to take the lead in the hand. The turn came the 2c and the river the 7s, giving Antonius the victory in the $198,501 pot.

About ten minutes later though, the same two players would get it all in again and top the last pot by a few thousand dollars. Dwan raised preflop to $3k and Antonius called from the big blind. The flop came 5c Th Ac and both players checked to the turn which brought the 9h. Antonius led out for $5k, but the nine must have helped Dwan as he reraised to $18.6k behind Antonius. Antonius still thought he had the better hand though and put in another raise which pushed it up to $42k leading Dwan to push all in. Antonius called $55k more, turning over 9s Ah for two pair. Dwan showed 9d Td for a lower two pair and was drawing to the two tens remaining in the deck. The river came the Qs though and Antonius took down another huge pot, this one totaling $200,497.

In yet another big pot between the two, Dwan raised from the button to $3k and Antonius who was holding 8c 7c called from the big blind to see the flop of 6h Js 5c. Antonius led out the flop for $6k with his open ended straight draw and Dwan called behind. The turn came the 9c which completed Antonius’ straight and also gave him a straight-flush draw. Antonius led out again for $14k and Dwan called behind to see the river which brought the Ah. Antonius continued to take Dwan to value town as he bet $41k with his nut straight. Dwan called and mucked his hand, leaving Antonius to scoop up the $128,500 pot from the middle of the table.

Dwan wasn’t Antonius’ only target for the day though, as he also took on Phil Ivey in a few big pots. In one such pot the two were playing heads up and Antonius raised the button to $3k. Ivey called from the big blind and the flop came 2h 8h Tc. Ivey checked the action to Antonius who put out a continuation bet of $5k. Ivey called and the turn came the Jh. Ivey then led out for $13k but had Antonius call behind. The river came the Qc and Ivey again led out, this time for $31k. However, Antonius reraised this to $135k and Ivey was forced to fold. Antonius then mucked his hand and collected the $104k from the pot uncontested.

So, although he got it in far behind in one of the biggest pots of the day, a little luck never hurt anybody and Antonius finished the session up $296,528 on the Hold’em tables. Also, winning nearly $300k in under an hour and a half is an impressive start to the new year, even for one of the best poker players out there.
