High stakes online poker player LarsLuzak had what most people would consider a great weekend, logging just over $825,000 in winnings in a little more than 13 hours of play. This of course translates to a respectable hourly rate of around $63,500. Another interesting statistic would be that he played merely 1,245 hands over the weekend, which amounts to around $660 per hand of poker played. Over Friday and Saturday LarsLuzak was handing it to everybody who dared sit at his table (including a few Full Tilt sponsored pros), however throughout Sunday it seemed he was mostly battling fellow high stakes phenom Tom ‘durrrr’ Dwan.
The fireworks between the two began Sunday afternoon with a pot that pushed up towards $200k. LarsLuzak raised from the button and was called by both durrrr and Patrik Antonius. The flop came 6d 9c 4h and the action was checked to LarsLuzak who put an almost $7k bet into the pot. This bet was raised by durrrr, which made Antonius fold, and after some amount of thinking LarsLuzak pushed all in for a re-raise totaling just over $50k more. Durrrr called the bet and showed A9 for top pair and LarsLuzak showed 57 for an open ended straight draw. The turn and river were both blanks and durrrr took the early lead in the fight between the two players.

Barely 10 minutes later another pot was contested between LarsLuzak and durrrr, this one totaling nearly $175k. The hand began with a raise from durrrr and a re-raise to $11k from LarsLuzak. The flop came 3s 3h 4c and LarsLuzak put out a bet of around $13.5k which was responded to by a push from durrrr for almost another $65k. LarsLuzak made the call and turned over a pair of 9s which gave durrrr’s K4 only 5 outs. An A came on the turn and it was looking grim for Dwan, but the river was a king and durrrr took down another huge pot.

Just over an hour later, the two again were contesting a nearly $200k pot. This time LarsLuzak was dealt 8c Js and he raised after several folds in front of him. Durrrr re-raised to $12k from the small blind and both lady marmelade and LarsLuzak smooth called durrrr’s raise. The flop came 3c 7s 8s, giving LarsLuzak top pair. However, he was put to a tough decision as durrrr suddenly opened the action by pushing his entire stack of almost $190k into the pot. This folded out lady marmelade and put the action to LarsLuzak who thought for a while and then made the call showing his J8. Durrrr could not have been impressed, as he turned over 89 and was in trouble. He had already put a pretty bad beat on LarsLuzak once today and was hoping to do it again. The turn, however, was a J, giving LarsLuzak top two pair and leaving durrrr only the four 10s in the deck to save him. This time the river 6 didn’t save durrrr, and things were beginning to look up for LarsLuzak as he added almost $100k more to his stack.

Later in the evening there was yet another big hand involving both LarsLuzak and durrrr. This time it was lady marmelade who made the raise preflop, which was called by LarsLuzak from the big blind and then check-raised by durrrr who was under the gun. This caused lady marmelade to fold, however LarsLuzak made the call. The flop came 4h Jd 5c and both players checked to see the Kh fall on the turn. LarsLuzak checked the action to durrrr who bet almost $25k. LarsLuzak re-raised all in and durrrr called for the remaining $56k in his stack. Not long after the last hand, the two managed to refrain from going all in, but still managed to create nearly a $175k pot. LarsLuzak opened the pot from late position with Ks Jd but was re-raised by durrrr from the button. LarsLuzak made the call and the flop came 8h Js Th. Again both players checked the flop and the 6h came on the turn. LarsLuzak put out a bet of nearly $20k which was called by durrrr. The river brought the Kc which gave LarsLuzak two pair. He bet out $54k and was called by durrrr. LarsLuzak turned over the top two pair hoping that it would be good enough and it was as durrrr mucked his cards, giving LarsLuzak the win in the $169,676 pot. The tides had indeed turned since the beginning of the night, and it seemed now as though LarsLuzak was taking durrrr to town. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately for Tom Dwan), this was the last big hand between the two for the night.

LarsLuzak reraised to $10.5k and Antonius called. The flop came Qd 4c 8c and LarsLuzak put out a bet of over $15k which was called by Antonius. Later on in the evening LarsLuzak took aim at another Full Tilt sponsored pro, David Benyamine. The action was folded around to Benyamine who was holding Qd Ks in the small blind and raised the pot to $3k. LarsLuzak was looking at As Ts and made the call. The flop came 5s 7c Kc and Benyamine put out a pot sized bet which was called by LarsLuzak. The turn brought the 2s and Benyamine checked the action over to LarsLuzak who now had a flush draw. LarsLuzak now put out a bet of $13k only to be re-raised another $29k by Benyamine. LarsLuzak made the call and the river was a huge action card, the Qs. This card gave David Benyamine top two pair, but unfortunately for him it also gave LarsLuzak the nut flush. Overall, the weekend went well for LarsLuzak. He showed (once again) that he can play with the best and come out on top, quite a large amount on top as well. If we are lucky, hopefully we will see more big action between him and Tom Dwan sometime soon.
