Well, not exactly, but he was a part on the first place team at this past weekend’s Dream Team Poker event at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. Team Aced was able to earn the fewest points (lower number is better) of the 148 teams. Gold’s team was made up of himself, his girlfriend, Ashley Nataupsky, and Houston Waldie. Team Aced is in reference to Gold’s recent sponsorship deal with Aced Poker, part of the Merge Gaming Network.
The Team Poker events award prizes both for how your team finishes as well as individual prizes. The structure paid out the top five individual finishers as well as the top five teams. The individual winner was Danny Nelson, who was part of Team BikerHaven.net. He took down $24,063 for outlasting the other 443 competitors. Gold was able to finish in 9th place, while his girlfriend Ashley finished in 4th place ($6,666). The team rules only take the top two finishers for each team, add their finish together and get the total team score. So Aced, with a score of 13, had the team championship wrapped up before the completion of the tournament.
For their first place team finish, Team Aced split $59,940. A far cry from the first place money for winning the World Series of Poker. “It’s the most fun you can have without $12 million on the line. My WSOP bracelet is in a vault, but my Dream Team Poker trophy will be on my mantle for all to see,” said Gold.
Other individuals making the money were, Philip Rousseaux in 2nd – $13,320 from Team Claddaghs, Jerry Percival in 3rd – $7,922 from Team Runner, Runner and John Regis in 5th – $5,328 from Team Poker Masters.
The other four teams in the money were, The Claddaghs – $33,300, The Clones – $15,984, Party at the Mansion – $10,656, and Helmuth Busters – $6,660.
