Las Vegas Police have arrested 29-year old Anthony Assad in connection with the December robbery of the landmark Bellagio Casino. Taken into custody on Wednesday, the suspect is the son of George Assad, a Judge in the Las Vegas Municipal Court.

“I think it goes without saying that as a father,” his honor said, “I am devastated and heartbroken to see my son arrested under these circumstances, as is the rest of his family.”

While unable to comment expressly on the matter at hand due to his legal status, the elder Assad did have strong words for the situation.

“I can say that as a prosecutor and a judge, I have always felt people who break the law need to be held accountable.”

Currently, the younger Assad is being held on three counts of illegal activity — robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, burglary with the use of a deadly weapon, and trafficking of a controlled substance. This information comes from Sheriff Douglas C. Gillespie.

Also known as Anthony Carleo, the suspect will face the authorities for a recent daring robbery. The event in question took place just over a month ago, when a man wearing a motorcycle helmet walked into the Bellagio. Approaching a craps table, the assailant pulled a gun and demanded to be given all of the chips there. Taking the valuables, he then escaped on a motorcycle.

Estimates show that the robber made off with somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.5 million. According to officials, the chips themselves were divided into denominations worth between $100 and $25,000.

“We were pleased to be able to assist and support Metro detectives in developing their case and ultimately apprehending a suspect,” said Senior VP of of MGM Resorts’ public affairs department. “We will continue to provide whatever support needed for a successful prosecution.”
