Flopturnriver.com has already announced that Ken Griffin is the winner of Event 45 at the WSOP. Flopturnriver has also explained just what Griffin plans on doing with his earnings. He will be spending his earnings on his mother and I thought it would be a good idea to honor him and go into more detail about Ken and his situation.

Ken Griffin served as a United States Marine for 10 years traveling all over the world. He then left the marines for the private sector until he would eventually take a leave of absence and returned back home. He is now 34 years of age.

Amazingly, this is his first WSOP cash in three total tries, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. All of that $455,354 that he won will be going towards his sick mother to pay for the overwhelming medical bills.

He had this to say about her: “I’m going to take care of her and be closer to home,” Griffin said. “I’m going to be transferring money into her account as soon as I get it.”

He later added, “She’s going through some chemotherapy and medicine is expensive. She lives paycheck to paycheck, so I’m really looking forward to helping her out.”

What Ken Griffin is going through with having a loved one being deathly sick is hard on anyone. For the players who signed up for Event 45 and were eliminated, at least they can feel somewhat better knowing the money is going to a good cause. Griffin’s first cash could be life saving. Not many can say that. Congratulations!
