The glamorous world of the silver screen and the slightly less glamorous world of online poker collide this coming Thursday at DoylesRoom. The web-based home of poker’s elder statesman Doyle Brunson is well known for attracting premiere talent from outside of the poker world, but this latest star is a new high. Featuring online this week alongside Doyle will be Golden Globe winner and resurgent movie star Mickey Rourke.
Mickey has lived a tumultuous life, involving a brief stint as a professional boxer, culminating in his recent return to form in the Academy nominated film The Wrestler. He reportedly began playing poker around six months ago, and naturally turned to his old friend Doyle Brunson for some insider tips. Doyle reports on his blog that the two met through a mutual friend many years ago, claiming that Mickey is “genuinely a nice guy.”
As if this were not enough, this week’s bounty event also features well known faces from the world of television and music. Heiress, model, and sister of Paris, Nicky Hilton will play in the event alongside Sopranos actress Jamie-Lynn Singer and Grammy award winning rapper Eve. Doyle and the self proclaimed ‘Mad Genius of Poker’ Mike Caro complete the bounty list.
Any player who is able to eliminate one of these star names will be awarded with $500. Knock out a second bounty and you’ll win an extra $5000. Pull off the unlikely feat of three bounty eliminations and you’ll be the lucky recipient of a $25,000 windfall. The tournament is this Thursday at 9:30 ET with a buy-in of $27.50.
