After nearly 3 months, play resumed in the durrrr Challenge #2 when Tom “durrrr” Dwan locked horns with Challenge 2 opponent, Daniel “jungleman12” Cates.

The two combatants played two No Limit Hold ‘Em sessions over the weekend. During the first session, Cates finished ahead $35,000 to add to his lead in the Challenge. In the second session, however, Dwan was the victor, to the tune of $47,000, cutting into Cates’ lead a bit. As it stands, Cates is ahead $645,667 after 9,783 hands played.

There were a few exciting hands during the two session. In this one, durrrr calls a 4-bet with 63o and flops the nuts.

This hand was the biggest of the two sessions. Durrrr again calls a 4-bet light, this time with 57o, and catches Cates bluffing.

In January 2009, Dwan first issued this challenge. In his statement to the poker world, he claimed the challenge was open to any member of the poker world, with the exception of his close friend Phil “OMGClayAiken” Galfond to their choice of No Limit Hold ‘Em or Pot Limit Omaha. Dwan claimed he would put up $1,500,000 to the challenger’s $500,000. After the last hand has been played, the player who is up wins the challenge, any money won during play of the challenge and the money put up by the players.

The rules of the challenge require opponents to play Dwan in 50,000 hands of $200/$400 or higher on four tables at a time. Once the stakes have been decided, all hands must be played at those stakes and if either player drops below 75 big blinds in their stack at any point, they must reload.

The first to accept this challenge was Full Tilt Pro Patrik Antonius. The two Red Pros have played nearly 40,000 of the required 50,000, with Dwan comfortably ahead to the tune of $459,961.50. Durrrr Challenge 1 has not seen action since August 3rd though.

After the session between Cates and Dwan, neither player mentioned when play will resume. Anxious railbirds will have to keep an eye on the designated durrrr challenge tables on Full Tilt Poker.
