Andreas Oscarsson, co-founder of the popular news and review site PokerListings, has been killed while on holiday in his hometown of Trollhättan, Sweden. Swedish police have confirmed that he was found deceased in his bed on August 3rd having died from gunshot wounds.
Oscarsson had returned to his childhood home with his son to visit family. The two-year old boy is believed to have been in the room when his father was shot. Swedish English-language paper The Local quoted the head of the police Anti-Crime Unit, Thord Haraldsson: “Several relatives, including the 2-year-old boy, were in the house where the man was found dead on Tuesday afternoon. None of the man’s family members are suspected of being involved in the murder, however.” He also confirmed that, following a preliminary investigation, the police believe Oscarsson’s death to be either manslaughter or murder.
The 36-year-old moved to the U.S. 10 years ago, eventually becoming one of the founding members of PokerListings.com. Thanks to his entrepreneurial endeavor the company grew into a major outlet for poker reporting, as well as a profitable part of the poker industry. He left his full-time position at the company in 2007 to spend more time with his newly born son. However, he continued to act in an advisory role and remained an influential figure both at PokerListings and in the poker media in general.
The child’s mother had remained in the United States, but is reportedly traveling to be with her son. A crisis team is also on hand to assist the family. Flop Turn River would like to add their deep condolences to those already pouring in from across the poker media.
