The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, a widely popular televised poker tournament, will soon be held at the Atlantis Resort and Casino on Atlantis Paradise Island. The PCA began as part of the World Poker Tour in 2004 and was moved to the European Poker Tour in 2008 and was the first event of the North American Poker Tour in 2010 where it remains today.
The $10,300 Main Event has been won by several famous poker pro’s and has brought many great moments for TV poker history. In 2004, the first ever PokerStars Caribbean Adventure the Main Event was won by Gus Hansen for a total of $455,780. The Main Event in 2007 would show us one of the most famous hands in TV poker history with Ryan Daut facing Issac Haxton Heads Up for the Main Event Title.
Most recently in 2012, Viktor “Isildur1” beat through Dan Shak heads up and a stacked field and final table that included, Daniel Negreanu, Galen Hall, Humberto Brenes, Mike McDonald, Johnathan Duhamel, and Scott Seiver to win the 100k Super High Roller for $1,254,400. His first ever major live tournament win.
Also in 2012 marked the first time an amateur player won the $10,300 Main Event. With John Dibella winning the first prize of $1,775,000, showing the world once again that anyone, professional or amateur can win a poker tournament. He is currently a 44 year old stock trader from New York and he satellited his way into the tournament through a $1,000 live satellite.
Next years PCA will kick off on Jan 6th 2013 with the unlimited rebuy 100k Super High Roller. Which is certain to bring out a lot of the rich amateurs and high stakes professionals. The 10k Main Event will begin on the 7th and will have a starting day A and B and that will conclude on the 13th and the High Roller 25k will complete the PCA series on the 14th. With Full Tilt Poker re-opening in the upcoming days this years PCA is sure to be full of action, especially given the large influx of cash in the poker economy from the reopening of Full Tilt Poker.
