PokerStars will host a charity tournament in London on the second of October. The world’s number one online poker room has revealed its propensity for social responsibility since its inception.

The event, part of EPT London, will last two days and proceeds will go towards cancer research. The £100,000 Guaranteed rebuy event costs £100+£10+£10 to enter with £10 with going to Cancer Research UK, an organization that supports nearly 5,000 researches, doctors, and nurses throughout the United Kingdom fighting cancer.

The EPT is not unfamiliar to hosting charity events. Season 5’s Grand Final in Monte Carlo played host to an event that raised funds for Ante up for Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising not only money but awareness for Africans in need. The institution was founded by Don Cheadle, Annie Duke, and Norman Epstein. Celebrities like Nelly, rugby great Sebastien Chabal, and Christina Millian joined poker greats Daniel Negreanu and Dario Minieri to raise over €160,000.

PokerStars has pledged to give back and make a difference across the globe. In the United States, they hosted a tournament that raised money for the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund following the rampage at Virginia Tech. 281 players entered the tournament with $19.99 going towards the fund and only a cent to the prizepool. PokerStars matched the player donations and sent a $11,285 check to the fund which was established to cover counseling, memorials, and anything else families needed after the catastrophe.

On the international front, PokerStars has shined as well. In addition to Ante up for Africa, they have raised over $250,000 for AIDS research via the 2007 Life Ball and the 2010 PCA amfAR Charity Tournament. A massive earthquake struck China and PokerStars and its players raised nearly $150,000 through tournaments and player donations.

As you can see, PokerStars relies on the benevolence of poker players like yourself to impact the world in a positive manner. Satellites to the 2-day EPT London Charity Event (October 2-4) can be found by selecting ‘Events’ > ‘EPT’ > ‘Qualifiers’ > ‘EPT7-London: Event 25’ in the PokerStars lobby. The EPT London Charity Event is a perfect opportunity to stop cancer, a terrible disease that threatens the entire world.
