PokerStars has unveiled a new addition to their tournament stable, known as the Turbo Championship of Online Poker (TCOOP). Set to launch on the 19th of January, this new series will feature Turbo and Hyper Turbo versions of several different varieties of the game.

For the initial running, PokerStars has scheduled 50 different events, with a combined prize pool of some $10 million in guaranteed cash. The festivities will run over a period of 11 days, culminating with a $1.5 million guaranteed Main Event with a buy-in set at $700. In the week and a half leading up to the big game, PokerStars has scheduled tournaments with entry fees ranging from $5.50 all the way up to $2,100.

This wide range of financial levels should give players of all bankroll tiers the chance to compete. Those who wish to find an even cheaper means of entry are welcome to take a shot at the TCOOP Satellites, many of which are currently up and running. These tournaments, says PokerStars, can be entered for as little as $1. and can be found under the TCOOP tab in the Events area.

As mentioned above, action will kick off on January 19, 2012. The first event on tap will be a $20+$2 No Limit Hold’em affair featuring 6-Max gameplay and a $200,000 guarantee.

If the initial buzz surrounding this latest series is any indication, the world’s largest poker site may have another winner on their hands. Both the World Championship and Spring Championship of Online Poker have become landmarks on the calender of serious players, and this new opportunity has the potential to do just as well.

One of the most interesting aspects of the TCOOP will be found in the winners’ circle. Unlike its older siblings, this series will likely see more amateur and aspiring players taking top prizes. Because of the lightning-quick nature of the games, luck will come more into play than ever before. Skilled players will not be able to sit and wait on the perfect hand, giving less experienced players a greater shot at victory.

No matter how you look at it, it seems as though PokerStars has a winner on its hands with their new Turbo Championship.
