PokerStars is well known for its series of regional tours, including the European Poker Tour and the Latin American Poker Tour.  The latest addition to this series is the Russian Poker Tour.

The event starts in the historic Russian city of St. Petersburg, from January 25th through February 1st with a $5,000 buy-in no-limit event.  Then, from February 22nd to the 28th, the action will be in Moscow, where the buy-in will be $10,000.

The Russian poker scene has seemingly exploded in the last couple years.  Alex Kravchenko finished fourth in the World Series of Poker Main Event in 2007.  Not to be outdone, fellow Russian Ivan Demidov finished second in this year’s event, utilizing some creative and aggressive play along the way.  Both players are expected to play in the events.

PokerStars is running satellites for the St. Petersburg event Monday through Saturday nights at 10:30, now until December 30th.  The satellites lead to a prize package worth $8,000, including your entry fee, hotel accommodations and spending money.
