Sunday 12th April saw the beginning of Event 22 of SCOOP, the long awaited Main Event. There were 3 events, low, medium and high as normal.
Event #22 low certainly drew a crowd with 18,747 players entering. Those thousands created a massive prize pool of $1,874,700 with a first-place prize of $187,470.01.
Day 1 play on Easter Sunday ended after 44 levels and 18,721 eliminations, leaving 26 to battle for the crown on Monday. A couple of hours after play resumed on Monday, it had been whittled down to the last 9.

The final hand of the event would see chip leader JC Alvarado flop 5’s full on a 775 flop in a 3bet pot with ErikXP flopping trips with Q7 and all the money going in on a Ks turn. Pretty sick hand for the event to finish on, and JC would take the title and $502k.

In the $10,300 high SCOOP Event 22, there were 502 eentries, which pushed the prize pool just past the guaranteed $5,000,000. That would be split according to the finishes of the final 54 players, though a sizeable portion – $963,338.00 – was reserved for the winner.
The first day of action consisted of 22 levels of play and resulted in the vast majority of the players taking leave of the tournament. And when it was over after 12 hours, xxjondxx led the 14-player field, though he was trailed by PearlJammer, j.thaddeus, Chowdahhead4, and actionDJ.

It didn’t take long before the short stack, ragen70, succumbed to the monster stack of j.thaddeus. They both saw a flop of 3d Qc 9h. Both players checked to see the Ac on the turn. Then a bet from ragen70 and call from j.thaddeus brought the 6c on the river, which prompted a check-raise all-in from ragen70 with J6o and the rivered pair. But j.thaddeus called with T8cc and the rivered flush to leave ragen70 out in second place with $715,350.
j.thaddeus claimed victory in the Event 22-High Main Event of the 2009 SCOOP. That victory included the cash reward of $963,338, the bonus prize of a SCOOP champion’s watch, and the ultimate glory in the title of SCOOP Main Event champion.
