As the Full Tilt Online Poker Series comes to an end this weekend, another series begins. The world’s largest online poker site, PokerStars.com, is hosting their 2nd annual Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) from May 2nd through the 16th. The tournament series will offer 38 events with three different buy-in levels for each tournament. For example, Event #1 was a NL Hold’em 6-max format that players could buy into for $22, $215, or $2,100. PokerStars denotes these with L (low), M (medium), and H (High) in their Lobby. The lower events will attract a lot more participants while the high-roller tournaments will have the biggest prize pool and first-place pay-outs.

The first of the three Event 1’s to finish was the $22 tournament which hosted more than 27,000 players. The $250,000 guaranteed events amassed a $546,100 prize pool which is a great sign for the 2010 series.

The final table stacks are below:
Seat 1: maks75757575 (43235008 in chips)
Seat 2: lark465 (31467695 in chips)
Seat 3: ffmm67 (72105033 in chips)
Seat 4: dyeti (45507466 in chips)
Seat 5: Soulman1980 (14773779 in chips)
Seat 6: hexchen3006 (65961019 in chips)

The final table came and went without a whole lot of drama as the last three players decided upon a chip chop leaving just $5,000 on the table. PokerStars sponsored professional Andre “aakkari” Akkari brokered the chip-chop as part of his final table hosting duties. Chip-leader “hexchen3006” took a large lead into three-handed play and was rewarded with a deal worth more than $51,000. Second-place in chips, “lark465”, guaranteed himself more than $35,000 while the lowest man on the totem pole, “ffmm67”, was slated to earn at least $30,068.

The final hand was an ultimate cooler as both players flopped a flush ending things rather quickly. Hexchen3006 added $5,000 more onto an already lucrative day and finished with nearly the same amount of first place money had he not chopped in the 1st place!

Next to finish was Event #1-M which was a $215 buy-in with a cool $1,000,000 guarantee. Just like the low entry event, this tournament had little trouble soaring past its guarantee as 6,783 players created a $1,356,600 prize pool. Unless a chop was reached this was going to be the first $200,000 payday in SCOOP 2010. A chop was briefly discussed during heads-up play between “Dantes_11” and “Fohle10586” but those talks were quickly laid to rest. Dantes_11 has a solid history on PokerStars having earned more than $750,000 in tournament cashes over the past few years. This mid-stakes grinder was finally able to make a big splash as he took control of heads-up play and went on to win the tournament and over $203,000. Runner-up Fohle140586 fought hard but ultimately fell victim to some impatience as he stacked off quite deep with just T2o before the flop.

Rounding out the trio of Event 1 tournaments was the high-roller version. The $1,000,000 guaranteed tournament carried a massive $2,100 buy-in that attracted 788 of the world’s best poker players. Once registration was over there was more than $1,500,000 in the middle and $277,848 slated for first place. That amount, however, would never be realized as the final three players decided to chip chop and leave only $20,000 on the table. Leading the way was Rajesh “BadcardsAA” Vohra who is a well known online tournament professional. Before winning $240,000 last night, Vohra had already earned more than $1,500,000 on PokerStars alone with wins in the Sunday $500k and the Wednesday Quarter Million. His biggest win came on FullTilt where he won the FTOPS 2-day tournament this February for a massive $430,000 score.
