One week since the aftermath of Black Friday and it appears online tournaments will continue to roll on. With FTOPS XX off to a strong start and the 2011 SCOOP on the horizon there will be plenty of tournament action for those still able to play online.   Between PokerStars, FullTilt, Bodog, and Party Poker there were millions of dollars up for grabs in weekend majors.  The News team at FlopTurnRiver is bringing detailed updates of major FTOPS XX events so be sure to head over there to read up on all the big pots, prizes, and winners.

Yesterday was kicked off by the $500,000 guaranteed Sunday Warm-Up on PokerStars.  The event which had been getting around 4,500 players before has lost approximately 25% of the field since Americans left the market.  Still, with more than $670,000 in the prize pool there was a six figure score on the line for the winner.  Making a splash at the final table was FTR’s very own Johan “busto_soon” Van Til who was a regular in our MTT forum for years.  He is considered one of the best high-stakes tournament grinders online and made a name for himself in 2008 when he won a huge number of WSOP Main Event seats through the PokerStars Steps System.  His 4th place finish here for $38,686 was just another big score on a resume which already includes a win in the Brawl on FullTilt for $79,800.  The Warm-Up crown came down to “abeainy” and “ALKADYPA” who battled it out for a difference in nearly $27,000.   The title ultimately went abeainy’s way giving him the biggest score of his career, a $105,631 first place check.

The Sunday Million used to be a $1,500,000 event attracting around 2,000 players each and every week.  Over the past two weekends the tournament has shrunk but still remains easily the week’s biggest event with more than 6,500 players creating a nice $1,310,400 prize pool.  Even with the slightly smaller prize pool there were still a handful of players at the final table looking to take out the variance by agreeing to a chip chop. Once play became five-handed the group, led by Peter “Balabacsi” Traply, all agreed to a chip chop based on their current counts.  Even with the deal complete there was still $20,000 set aside to play for which ultimately came down to Belabacsi and “VanDerPelto”, a midstakes grinder who before yesterday had just one five-figure score to his name.   The match lasted a while before the two players found strong hands before the flop, getting all the money in with Ace-King vs. Pocket Nines.  The coin flip went VanDerPelto’s way giving him the title and a $131,000 payday.  However, it was Belabacsi who earned the biggest piece of the pie as he guaranteed himself $156,000 during chop talks.

There was quite a strong final table on hand at the Sunday $250k Guaranteed.  The $500+$30 high-roller event tends to weed out amateurs and qualifiers leaving just some of the best online and live tournament professionals in the field.  One of those professionals happened to be PokerStars Team Member Alexandre “Allingomes” Gomes, a high-stakes tournament grinder. The Brazilian professional has won a lot of high-stakes events including the Wednesday $150k and the $215 2X on Stars in the past.   He has also seen great success on the live scene winning the 2009 WPT Bellagio Cup Main Event for a massive $1,187,670 score.  Along with the WPT victory, Gomes also has a WSOP Bracelet to his name, having taken down the $2,000 NL tournament in 2008 for $770,540.  Those great experiences paid off last night helping him wind his way through a tough field all the way to heads-up play against “BIGMICKG”. This was BIGMICKG’s first major final table and he took full advantage of this opportunity by dispatching of Gomes and shipping the $52,452 first place check.  The five-figure score was one of many on Stars which includes wins in the $33 and $55 re-buy events.  Gomes fell in second place for $38,223 when his King-Jack suited was unable to suck out against Ace-Queen off suit.

The Party Poker Sunday $250,000 Guaranteed fell a bit short of its guarantee this past weekend leaving some overlay for those in attendance.  With just over $12,000 added to the prize pool there was some nice extra value for the players involved.  The final table consisted of some well known pros, solid grinders and relatively unknown players.  The first player to bust was “thawoo” who earned just $2,500 for his 10th place finish.  Possibly the most accomplished player at the final table, thawoo is the holder of a few major crowns including last year’s SCOOP-L $270 NLHE $250k Guaranteed.  His win there netted him more than $64,000 becoming the biggest score of his career.  He has also won the Wednesday Quarter Million, $66k on FullTilt, and nearly won the $500k last week before falling in 3rd place.  Finishing one spot better was “STiltiana” who won this event last September for $52,500.   With two of the better players falling in the first few minutes at the final table the $250k crown was truly up for grabs.  Three players, “incredibust”, “tobikuenzli”, and “Jalta111” seemed content to chop the remaining prize pool guaranteeing each at least $29,979.  The chip-leader at the time, incredibust, ended up earning the most money, just shy of $40,000.  This big score was easily the greatest cash of his career.  In fact all three players had seen little success on Party Poker in the past proving anyone can win a Sunday major.

The Bodog Sunday $100k continues to offer nice overlay for those playing on the world’s largest sportsbook and casino.  The $150+$12 event fell $17,050 short of its $100,000 guarantee giving each player approximately $31 in added value. Being one of the few sites still open to American players there were a few from the USA on hand at the final table.  Doug “OU_dlanger610” Lang made the most of his opportunity by finishing in 2nd place for $15,000.  The five-figure score failed to crack the top-10 on a strong resume which includes a win in the FTP $1M last December for $230,956 as well as other victories in random $100 events.  It seems players like Lang are going to be carrying the torch for the American contingent online until the lawmakers allow players back onto other sites such as PokerStars and FullTilt. Finishing one spot worse was another American, “AV8 Pounder” who earned $9,500 for the win.  The midstakes grinder took great advantage of the weaker field by pulling off one of the bigger scores of his career.  The same would be said of the $100k winner, “bizzybstarr”, who earned $25,000 for a hard days work.  The cash game and tournament grinder took down what appears to be the best cash of his life, earning a major victory in the process.
