The Sunday Tournament Report has received a necessary face lift since the April 15th crackdown by the US Government. With Americans no longer able to play on PokerStars and FullTilt we will begin focusing our attention on other rooms as well. New to the report this week is the Sunday $50,000 Guaranteed on the Merge Network. This $109 event seems to be picking up steam as Americans can still play on its skins including Carbon and Lock Poker. FlopTurnRiver will have any breaking news on the future of American Online Poker so be sure to check out the News Section daily. Also, FTOPS XX finished up today and our writers are covering each event in great detail. With FTOPS XX coming to an end and the PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker about to begin it seems online tournament poker is alive and well, at least for the rest of the world.

The earliest major of the day comes from across the pond. Starting at 14:00 Eastern Time is the $200,000 Guaranteed on Titan Poker. The $200+$15 buy-in event attracted just enough players to surpass its guarantee this past weekend making it one of the biggest tournaments online. With more than $202,000 in the prize pool there was a hefty $42,462 first place check up for grabs. Taking home the title was “crf8” who earned the biggest score of his career on Titan. While the $42,462 cash was his best it was certainly not his first strong showing on the iPoker Network. Over the past two years crf8 has had some nice finishes including a win in the $50k GP re-buy in 2009 for $12,937 and a 5th place finished in this very event last October for $10,560.

PokerStars continues to roll on despite Americans being banned from the site. Their typical Sunday majors have been running each of the past three weekends albeit with smaller guarantees. It appears PokerStars has quite the knack for setting their guarantees as each event has either been right at or just over their respective numbers. The $250k, formerly the Sunday500, had a nice showing yesterday as more than 560 of the world’s best online tournament grinders participated in the $500+$30 event. Earning the title was Tom “hitthehole” Middleton who nearly won this very event back in 2009 where he finished 2nd for $64,072. In fact he has had a lot of close misses on Stars in the past and turned down a chip-chop once heads-up play began because he had “lost too much this week”. That proved to be quite a sound decision as he outlasted “majskolv” heads-up for the title. Had the two players decided to chop Middleton would have cost himself about $7,000 in winnings. Runner-up “majskolv” earned $38,497 for second place when his Ace-Nine suited was unable to hold up all-in PF against King-Queen offsuit.

Even with the uncertainty about the future of PokerStars the Sunday Million continues to roll on unfazed. Yesterday the tournament flew past its $1,000,000 guarantee as more than 5,700 players entered the $200+$15 event. With a big field and more than $178,000 on the line for the winner there was plenty of action throughout the day. This was never more true than at the final table where a slow start was quickly replaced by a fury of bust-outs. Players were being eliminated left and right until heads-up play came down to “Pinowww” and “Vsegris”. Pinowww was looking to double dip on Stars as he won the Sunday Warm-Up last November for nearly $150,000. His opponent was nowhere near as experienced but much like the eventual winner of the $250k hitthehole, did not want to take a chip chop either. Once again the aggressive player won out as Vsegris earned himself the Million title and a life-changing score. Below are the final table starting stacks, bust-out hands, and pay-outs:

The Second Chance started well after both the Million and $250k, but finished well before them. With less players than the Million and a much faster structure than the $250k the Second Chance, it tends to be done before either other tournament has reached its final table. With just 721 players in the field the Second Chance has been about cut in half from its day before the FBI crackdown. This tournament appears to have taken a much bigger hit than the others due to its later starting time. In order for PokerStars to thrive they are going to need to adjust their tournament times in the future. Heads-up play came down to two solid players, “OMGitshunt” and “assalbi”. Both had $20,000+ scores on their resume including assalbi who has won the $109 re-buy multiple times on PokerStars. OMGitshunt is no stranger to re-buy success either, nearly winning the $55r back in March for a $24,900 payday. Heads-up play only took three hands before OMGitshunt was crowned champion when his King-Two suited made a winning pair of deuces against Ace-Seven suited.

One of the few sites still open for American players is Bodog.  The casino, sportsbook, racebook, and poker room seems to have not been in the US governments cross hairs.  Their weekly Sunday major has still not quite benefited from more Americans playing there although it is inching closer to its guarantee. The $150+$12 event attracted more than 630 players yesterday falling less than $5,000 shy of its $100,000 guarantee. Busting first at the final table was one of the best online players in the world, Jeremy “chipsteela” Menard. The US based poker pro won the $1,000,000 guaranteed on FullTilt just over a year ago for $180,123. He has also won the $109 re-buy on PokerStars and came close to winning the Sunday Brawl in 2009 where he took 2nd for $65,551. On the other end of the spectrum was “Kirk50” who shipped the $100k title for the second time in his career. He previously won this event back in 2007 for $25,000. His $23,600 score this time around was slightly less, but probably just sweet.

A room that might be receiving a lot more attention in the upcoming months is Carbon Poker. Carbon is the main room on the Merge Network and should be growing nicely soon. Their weekly Sunday $50k had a good showing yesterday as more than 640 players entered the $109 event. The event kicks off at 15:00 Carbon time which appears to be Central Standard Time. As we learn more about all of the great tournament players on Carbon there will be more in-depth write-ups on the winners of the $50k.
