Just over five years after turning professional, Welsh-born Roberto Romanello has claimed his first major tournament win.

Playing under the Full Tilt Poker flag, Romanello bested a field of 563 competitors at the 2010 European Poker Tour’s Main Event in Prague. Held at the city’s Hilton Hotel, each player ponied up a whopping €5,000 to earn a seat.

His ride to the final table included several interesting moments. All the while he was seen sporting his lucky wig which, according to a Full Tilt Poker press release, he purchased while at the EPT Snowfest event. Entering the last round of play, Romanello sported the fifth largest chip stack out of the eight remaining players.

Aggression proved to be his most valuable tool, helping him eventually overtake the competition. After moving into the lead with five players remaining, Romanello began to slowly weed out his tablemates. Eventually, it was his pocket tens against an opponent’s Ace-Jack. When another ten fell on the flop, his hopes of a win were finally realized.

The victory earned him a payday of  €640,000, or just about $846,000. Combine this with his earlier appearance at the EPT Copenhagen final table, and his career tournament winnings have now topped the $1,700,000 mark.
