Another Tournament-filled Sunday is in the books, and with tons of large guarantees and six-figure scores available there were plenty of tournament grinders on hand looking for that one big score.  This is the last Sunday of the month, and with that brings a few special tournaments, namely the PokerStars Turbo Million Takedown.  Getting the day off and running was the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up.

The Warm-Up always has an interesting dynamic to its final table, typically a mixture of the early-rising American crowd coupled with the ever dangerous European contingent, and today was no exception.  Making the final players were players from Canada, London, Sweden, Tennessee, Texas, and Georgia.  For the first time in a while the guarantee was actually reached as 3806 players generated a $761,200 prize pool in the $200+$15 buy-in event.

This is how the final table stacks looked:

Seat 1: coinflipster (2061103 in chips)
Seat 2: GravityPilot (1533320 in chips)
Seat 3: Gran_Goliat (7327839 in chips)
Seat 4: Mi||a.TiMe (1089333 in chips)
Seat 5: xnotthatonex (6368913 in chips)
Seat 6: MadSkillz609 (3040239 in chips)
Seat 7: freeds (6888137 in chips)
Seat 8: Displeased (5003246 in chips)
Seat 9: gutshtallin (4747870 in chips)

In the end there would be a two-way chop between “gutshtallin” and “Gran_Goliat”.  Gran_Goliat had approximately a 3:2 chip advantage and was guaranteed $80,593 for his efforts while gutshtallin would be guaranteed $76,870 and there would be $10,000 left on the table to play for.  In the end it was gutshtallin who would win a race when his 55 held up against the JTs of Gran_Goliat.  This is gutshtallin’s biggest score ever, eclipsing his win in the FullTilt Sunday Brawl for $68,000 earlier in the year.  Coming into today he had ten other five-figure scores in online MTTs.

PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up $750k Guaranteed
3806 Entrants

1. gutshtallin $86,870.00
2. Gran_Goliat $80,593
3. xnotthatonex $45,672.00
4. Displeased $38,060.00
5. GravityPilot $30,448.00
6. freeds $22,836.00
7. coinflipster $15,224.00
8. Mijja,TiMe $9,515.00
9. MadSkillz609 $6,546.00

Next in line was the $1,000,000 Turbo Takedown, a 5,000FPP (Frequent Player Point) buy-in tournament.  Players at PokerStars earn FPP’s through raked pots in cash games and tournament fees in SNGs and MTTs.  The tournament has a very shallow structure and pays out nearly half of its field.  All in all, 8634 players had enough FPP’s to play and 4000 of them left with at least $90.  Going into the Final Table there was a tight race for the chiplead, with “greener_tree” holding a slight advantage:

Seat 1: fatimato (566306 in chips)
Seat 2: Gefallener (4637248 in chips)
Seat 3: ukom777 (4996824 in chips)
Seat 4: elitesauce (1773932 in chips)
Seat 5: greener_tree (5842055 in chips)
Seat 6: el10delajuve (640128 in chips)
Seat 7: Hip O’Crazy (4047941 in chips)
Seat 8: Big Pig 63 (2123232 in chips)
Seat 9: MikeG5 (1274334 in chips)

Once play became three-handed chip chop discussions commenced.  In a strange move, the players in second and third agreed to a chop that would give the chipleader at the time, greener_tree, a chance to make even more than 1st place money.  Greener_tree would be guaranteed $84,000 while the other two players would each be guaranteed $48,000 with $20,000 left on the table.  The $1,000,000 prize pool only pays $100,000 for first!  Greener_tree must have been ecstatic to have chopped because shortly thereafter he would lose his commanding chiplead and bust out in third place, leaving “elitesauce” and “Hip O’Crazy” to battle for the extra $20,000.  Elitesauce would take a commanding chiplead when his TT dominated his opponent’s AT, and he would finish him off in the same fashion as his QJo held up against Q8s for the win.

Elitesauce seemingly grinds mid-stakes MTTs on PokerStars. His biggest cash before this was just shy of $5,000.  Greener_Tree ended up making the most money in the tournament, $84,000, which is more than triple his previous best cash, a $25,000 score on PokerStars last month in a $320 buy-in event.

The FullTilt Sunday Brawl had a drop-off in entrants this week, forcing FullTilt to match their guarantee.  1713 players participated in the $240+$16 Knock-out event which awards $40 to a player if they bust another from the tournament. There were 17 FullTilt Red Pros on hand, including online phenoms Pearljammer and Isaac “Menlo” Baaron.  David Colclough was the only Red Pro fortunate enough to make the money, finishing in 29th place for $945.   A familiar face to us, Chardrian, moderator of our MTT Forum made a deep run.  However, luck was not on his side as he failed to win a timely flip and busted 12th for $2,800.  This cash pales in comparison to his 3rd place in the FTOP’s Main Event last year for over $150,000.  Just a reminder, FTOPs is back and running this November and satellites are already starting for the bigger events.

In the end, it came down to a battle between “breeth” and “moronicus” for the title and over $72,000 in prize money.  Breeth was able to get the better of his opponent and ship a nice payday.   Breeth adds to a huge month having won the Sunday 500 earlier this month for over $90,000. This was his 21st five-figure score online and his 11th in which he earned at least $20,000.

PokerStars did everything they could today to find enough players to reach their guarantee for the Sunday 1.5Million. However, after running rake-free $11 DS satellites and extending the start time 45 mintues they were still only able to get 7415 entrants, forcing them to pay out $17,000 in overlay.  The Final Table, as always, had some ridiculous beats, chip chop talks, and one very happy person.

Entering the final table the chip stacks looked like this:

Seat 1 – Numb Nutzzzz 3,533,560
Seat 2 – moabut 5,019,295
Seat 3 – Lounatic0815 3,163,137
Seat 4 – cashadvance7 6,955,314
Seat 5 – salvo58 11,985,000
Seat 6 – BackDoorovic 1,447,668
Seat 7 – darkillermax 31,025,322
Seat 8 – sms9231 7,613,568
Seat 9 – kadi100 2,447,136

First to go was “BackDoorovic” who was eliminated in 9th place and earned $10,500 for his efforts when he was forced to shove with Q3o:

Seat 2: moabut (4339295 in chips)

You don’t often see too much limping at the Sunday Million final table, but “Numb Nutzzzz” must know something we don’t, as his pocket 4s were able to hold against the A3s of cashadvance7 who took home $17,250 for a long days work.

Going out it 7th place was “kadi100” who could not get his KK to hold against A9o:

A tough beat to take, but I’m sure $26,250 makes it a bit easier to swallow.  Shortly after “moabut” would find himself short-stacked and all-in with A4o against the pocket Kings of “sms9231”.  This time the naked-ace could not win the battle and moabut had to pack up and go home in 6th place, earning $39,000.

His A5o was no match-up for the TT of salvo, especially when another ten flopped. The Ace on the turn gave a shimmer of hope, but the Qh slammed the door and he was out in 5th place, earning $54,000.

After his bust out, a long chip talk ensued. However, sms9231 wanted a bit more than others were willing to give, and play resumed.  Unfortunately for Numb Nutzzzz the very next hand would be his demise:

A sick beat indeed!  The 2-outer would leave Numb Nutzzz without chips and out in fourth place, with $69,000 to console him.  After this another chip chop chat would ensue and once again, sms9231 would not take the deal.  In hindsight he probably should have, because about 10 hands later this happened:

Instead of taking home at least $105,000 from the deal, sms9231 was left with $84,000 for his third place finish.  He is a well-known big buy-in MTT Player who has a few huge cashes to his name.   Last November he final tabled a $300 buy-in FTOPs event, eventually busting in 4th place for $73,837.  His biggest victory was a win in the $100r on PokerStars this past July for nearly $35,000.

Immediately after his bust out, the two remaining players “darkillermax” and “salvo58” would agree to a chop, giving $144,656 to darkillermax and $134,793 to salvo58 with $30,000 left on the table.  Heads-up play would last all of five hands, ending in a total cooler:

The PokerStars Sunday 500 is starting to pick up some steam as it finally reached its guarantee this week.  1024 players ponied up the $530 entry fee and generated a prize pool of $512,000.  Making the final table was someone familiar to our STR, “rusostreet”.  Recently, he has some nice scores, including a win in the Second Chance for nearly $55,000 in August.  He found himself up against “beaverFEVER”, a player who up until today had a career-high cash of nearly $19,000, for a second place finish in the $100r in September.  The two would wait a while for PokerStars support to come so they could discuss a deal.  The two agreed to a deal leaving $5,000 on the table and giving rusostreet $80,943 and beaverFEVER $74,619.  Once the deal was made play would go on for some time until beaverFEAVER would win a flip with AJ vs 88 to take a 4.5:1 chiplead.  The blinds were soon very high and rusostreet was forced to get all of his money in:

The Sunday $215r always attracts the “who’s who” of high-stakes online MTTs.  This week 324 of the world’s took part, and after 547 re-buys and 213 add-ons the tournament still fell short of its guarantee by $33,200.  This week was no exception, as a very familiar face, Shane “shaniac” Schleger took home the title and a nice paycheck of $51,250.  If his name sounds familiar it is because he was on our STR last week with a fourth place finish in FullTilt’s monthly $1M guarantee, earning $59,000.  Another big name “Titantom32” made the final table but was ousted in fourth place, taking home $21,250.  TitanTom has made our STR before having won the Sunday500 in August for $91,250.

tarheelkid wins the pot (3,230,828) with a pair of Kings

With the victory, tarheelkid would earn a huge payday of over $132,000 and Papagaio would have to settle for second place and $80,250. He had been knocking on the $750k door for a while, having finished 11th in this event this past June.  That $7,000 cash was his biggest cash until today’s huge victory.

Last, but certainly not least, on FullTilt is the Sunday Mulligan.  The $200+$16 buy-in $200,000 Guarantee event gives every gambler one last shot at a nice score.  Taking full advantage of this was “jcada99” who took home first place and nearly $50,000 in prize money.   This is certainly not jcada99’s first big score as he has nearly $150,000 this past January in a $200 buy-in MTT on Full Tilt.  He tends to play high buy-in MTTs on FullTilt and has done quite well for himself, having bubbled a $1k buy-in FTOPs event in February.  A final note, the 1102 entrants in this event generated a $220,400 prize pool making it the lone major on Full Tilt to reach its guarantee today. Well-known and well-respected online pro SCTrojans made the final table, eventually busting in fourth place, earning himself just over $18,000. 18 FullTilt Red Pros played in the tournament, however, not a single one was able to make the money.
