Online tournaments appear to be gaining momentum as this Sunday was another big day with many tournaments easily exceeding their guarantees.  The major attraction of the day was the Full Tilt $1,000,000 guarantee tournament.  This $500+$35 buy-in event took the place of the $200+$16 $750,000 guaranteed tournament.  PokerStars continued to have great success with all five of its big Sunday tournaments reaching their guarantees.

Starting off this Sunday was the $750,000 guaranteed PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up.   This week 4,180 players entered the $200+$15 buy-in event creating a prize pool of $836,000.  The Sunday Warm-Up seems to have caught a nice boost from the $1M guarantee it paid at the end of 2008.  Since that tournament ran, the Warm-Up seems to have been attracting over 4,000 entrants.  There was quite an interesting dynamic at the final table, with “SpaceyFCB” and “IM CRU” seemingly battling back and forth the entire time.  It was only fitting that the two would make it to heads-up play, with SpaceyFCB eventually coming out on top:

Seat 4: SpaceyFCB (26390218 in chips)

Kicking off FullTilt’s big day was the $240+$16 Sunday Brawl.  The Brawl is a special tournament where players receive money for knocking out their opponents.  In this “knock-out” style event each player receives $40 per player busted.  This week, 18 FullTilt Red Pros played in the event, with “S Gromenkova” getting the deepest, eventually finishing in 47th place.  Here were the stack going into the final table:

Seat 1: puuusling (235,312)
Seat 2: CrazyEdi (403,408)
Seat 3: CGMAN09 (1,133,823)
Seat 4: MrRenniW (740,268)

Seat 7: Raisin Daisy (855,806)
Seat 8: mrw8419 (661,757)
Seat 9: Klausen (737,954)

Heads-up play would eventually come down to “CGMAN09” and “MrRenniw.”  Both players have very little history playing on FullTilt, therefore it’s quite obvious these were to be their biggest cashes ever.  Much like every other tournament, it came down to a coin flip, with CGMAN09 hitting a straight on the river to win:

Seat 3: CGMAN09 (4,270,344)
Seat 4: MrRenniW (2,056,656)

The FullTilt Million saw a nice showing and an ever better final table field.  29 FullTilt Red Pros entered and Allen Cunningham, former WSOP POY, would make the deepest run, finishing in 66th place.  There were plenty of big names making deep runs but only one, “gboro780” would make it down to heads-up play.  Others making nice runs were “JCarver,” “D1rtyR1v3r,” “OnceUponAStar” and “Charder30.”  Unfortunately none of these big MTT names would make the final table.  It was left to gboro780, the 4th ranked MTT online pro, to take one home for the pros.  This tournament marks an impressive point in his career; it was his 30th five-figure score.  He has won the $100r for over $70,000 on PokerStars and placed 2nd in the $1k Monday on FullTilt for over $64,000. Stacks were fairly even when “bigdennys” 2pr held against gboro’s flush draw.  The tournament finished just one hand later:

Never to take a back seat to any tournament, the PokerStars $1.5M Guaranteed saw another week of growth, once again paying $200,000+ to its winner.  This week, 8260 of the world’s best poker players created a $1,652,000 prize pool with $200,057.20 for first.  Unfortunately, like most weeks the tournament would get chopped, this time when play was down to heads-up.  There were some “interesting” plays at the final table to say the least, including eventual 3rd place finisher “twopairdad” who seemed to be splashing around his chips quite a bit (see 8th place knock out for more evidence).  Here are the final table stacks, all 8 bust-out hands, and results:

The FullTilt Sunday Mulligan had some impressive names make its final table including Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier and Clayton “Clayton_27” Newman.  Staudenmaier has made a WPT final table and Newman placed 2nd for over $200,000 in the FTOPs Main Event that FTR Member “Chardrian” finished 3rd in.  Both players had nice stacks entering the final table but the poker gods were unkind as Staudenmire would bust in 4th and Newman would go out in 6th place.  Luckily for Newman, we’ll hear more from him later in the report.  Heads-up play came down to “cwizzlefoshizzl” and “Intervention.”  Here’s the final hand:

The PokerStars Sunday 500 had another great final table this week including Peter “Apathy123” Jetten and “Raszi.”  Unfortunately for the railbirds, both players went out fairly early, finishing in 7th and 8th place respectively.  The 500 had been struggling to reach its guarantee the past few weeks, but easily made it this Sunday with 1049 entrants.  This meant that the $95,249.20 guaranteed for first came down to “cwp394” and “Pappe_Ruk.”  Pappe_Ruk had some nice success in 2008, profiting over $30,000 for the year on PokerStars alone.  CWP is no stranger to success on PokerStars as he won Event #3 of the WCOOP this past September.  Luck was with him again as he would outlast Pappe_Ruk for first place and the title:

Another event which always brings some big names to the final table is the $215 re-buy on PokerStars.  A good amount of well-known pros made deep runs including “ender555,” “gboro780,” “intervntion,” and “rdcrsn.” One of these players, rdcrsn would make it to heads-up play against “floien.”  Rdcrsn is one of the biggest winners in online poker, having made over $218,000 in 2008.  He tends to play only big buy-in tournaments, as well as re-buy events over $100.  This win marked his 3rd victory in the 215r on PokerStars.  Here’s the final hand:
