Online tournaments keep churning towards 2010.  FullTilt bolstered online attendance this weekend by running a smaller buy-in tournament series, Mini FTOPS XIV.  The series allowed players with smaller bankrolls a chance to play for big prizes as even some $10 tournaments had first place checks in excess of $30,000.

Major tournaments on PokerStars were unfortunately riddled by a day of chip-chops. Almost every major tournament was decided before the final hand was dealt as players took the safe route once reaching their final tables. The day began with the Sunday Warm-Up on PokerStars which continues to crush its $750,000 guarantee. For the past few months this tournament has been toying with the $1,000,000 prize pool mark, but it just keeps falling short.  Unfortunately yesterday was more of the same as 4,621 players created a $924,200 prize pool, good for the 3rd biggest of the day behind the Million on both FullTilt and Stars.  The final table was without any apparent big names, and as was the theme of the day, the final four players chopped the remaining prize pool leaving “jdawg217” with the biggest piece of the pie.

PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up $750k Guaranteed
4,621 Entrants; $924,200 prize pool

1. jdawg217 $116,916.77
2. danny04 $109,460.95
3. Nontoxx $79,698.03
4. OSHREK $75,048.06
5. G A W $39,278.50
6. LastChance11 $30,036.50
7. Frassefisk $20,794.50
8. BrainBug75 $11,552.50
9. taugonut $7,393.60

Much like the Warm-Up, the Sunday Million was also chopped. In this case the final three players took chip-adjusted numbers and battled it out for the remaining $30,000.  One of the biggest names in online poker, Chris “Moorman1” Moorman made the final table but busted in 8th place for just under $19,000.  Moorman is consistently ranked inside the top-10 and has 17 cashes in excess of $20,000 to his name.  He has seen big success in major events, including a 2nd place finish in August’s FTOPS Event 17 for $204,000 and a final table appearance in the SCOOP $10k Main Event for $112,950 in April.  Michael “dapalma50” Palma took 2nd place after the chop for more than $206,000.  This was the biggest score of his career, well ahead of a win in the $109r in October for $76,439.

The Sunday $500k was able to squeak by its guarantee with just over 1,000 players.  Once again, the tournament would end early as both “Disgueh” and “Ericb09” called upon the moderator to settle with a chip chop.  While the tournament came to an anti-climactic finish there were plenty of big names on hand to make the final table exciting.  The 9th place finisher “crzysavage” just missed out on his 14th career double-digit score.  Top-100 ranked “danskemann” took 7th place for $15,133, merely the 8th biggest score of his career.  Danskemann found his way on this report a few times this year for final tabling both the $215r in March (3rd place) and the Second Chance in February (2nd place).

Runner-up (who actually took home the biggest prize) “Ericb09” is a top-5o ranked professional who has a ton of big scores to his name including a 4th place finish in the SCOOP Main Event (M) for $183,885 in April.  He also won the $1k Monday on FullTilt and the $109r on Stars earlier this year for $76,750 and $42,033 respectively. Eventual “champion” Disgueh took home over $72,000, barely beating out a $71,750 cash for winning the Super Tuesday on PokerStars in June.

One of the few major events on Sunday not chip-chopped was the Sunday $215 re-buy on PokerStars.  The final table saw a few strong names including 9th place finisher Taylor “tdomeski” Douglas who nearly won a WSOP bracelet in 2007, finishing in 2nd place in a $1,500 NL Hold’em tourney for $467,101. One of the great online tournament professionals, Sorel “zangbezan24” Mizzi, finished in 7th place for more than $6,000.  This cash is merely a blip on his radar screen, as he has more than $2,250,000 in tournament prizes on PokerStars alone.  He has won this very tournament twice as well as a WPT circuit event in 2008 for more than $143,000.  He has dominated both the live scene and online scene over the past few years, and is approaching more than $5,000,000 in cashes. WCOOP bracelet winner “playitsafe” took down the $215r this week for over $38,000. His bracelet came in a smaller 2-7 Triple Draw event in which he earned himself $24,809.

Top-100 ranked “EndlessJ” made it all the way down to three-handed play in the Sunday Second Chance before taking a chop with “jellycz” and “Foggsy”.  His $35,217 cut was the 2nd biggest score of his career, well behind a $65,551 score for finishing 2nd in the Sunday Brawl in October.  All three players took similar chop-adjusted pay-outs, but it was “jellycz” who was crowned the victor. This was unofficially the biggest score of his career and definitely his best finish in a Sunday Major.  3rd place finisher “Foggsy” was at his 2nd Major final table this year, having taken 8th place in the Sunday Million in August for nearly $29,000.

The Sunday Brawl kicked off a big day of poker on FullTilt.  With Mini FTOPS XIV finishing up, there was an extra boost to most of the major events, including an additional $250,000 in the $750k prize pool.  The Brawl easily eclipsed the $500,000 prize pool mark, as 2,261 players, including nearly 30 FullTilt sponsored professionals, played in the days earliest major.  Mike “Timex” McDonald nearly made the final table before busting in 42nd place.  Joining him in the money was five-time WSOP bracelet winner Allen Cunningham who finished in 147th place. Two other professionals slipped in the money, as Johan Storakers and Jon Turner finished in 196th and 160th place respectively.

The tournament came down to “El Spewtardo” and “ThatsFrushedUp”. If El Spewtardo sounds familiar, it’s because he won this very event just two weeks ago for $101,272!  This near back-to-back heads-up appearance might go down as one of the great feats in online poker history.  Unfortunately for the spewy one, this time he was unable to take home the title.  While ThatsFrushedUp may not have had the final table experience of his opponents, he was able to take down the title and $106,413.

The $750k was injected with an extra $250,000 yesterday to coincide with the ending of the Mini FTOPS XIV.  This tournament also fell victim to the Sunday chop virus that was going around, as the final three players divided up the remaining prize pool based on chip counts.  Jeff “GrampaJeff” Gray was left out of the reindeer games as he took home just over $68,000 for his 4th place finish.  Gray is no stranger to success on FullTilt, as he has won two major events including the Brawl last December for $79,063 and FTOPS Event #4 in 2007 for $138,000.   Labat “Mpiyav” Antoine actually took home the biggest cash ($162,494) despite finishing in third place.  This is the 2nd time he has come out on top in a major, and his biggest cash since winning the Mulligan for just over $50,000 in June.

Finally, Mike McDonald was once again the low FullTilt Pro, as he took home 37th in another frustrating near miss.

Finishing off a big day of poker on FullTilt was the $200,000 guaranteed Sunday Mulligan.  This tournament saw a nice amount of well known players reach the final table including “mig.com” and “Bttech86” who finished in 4th and 8th place respectively.  Both are respected tournament professionals with plenty of five-figure scores to their name.  Mig has had a bit more success in bigger events, having nearly won the Warm-Up in March for $78,354. He has crushed the $109r as well, winning it at least twice this year.  Eventual winner “Luukie21” nearly won an FTOPS Event in May, taking 4th place in Event #10 for $79,500.  However, it appears he enjoys cash games a bit more, as he has played some of the biggest stakes offered at FullTilt including $200/$400 blinds Pot-Limit Omaha  against players such as Brian “Stinger88” Hastings, Isildur1, and Gus Hansen.

One final (and insane) note, Mike McDonald made it into the top-100 in the Mulligan as well! What a day for the FullTilt professional, as he finished inside the top 100 in all three Sunday Majors.  Unfortunately this tournament was just like the two before it, as he busted outside of the final table in 76th place.
