One of the problems with having a big line-up of Sunday tournaments every week is that once in a while a bigger horse comes to town.  This week the Super Bowl brought tournament entries down significantly, even forcing some sites to lower guarantees for this week only. Although this Sunday may have not been the biggest day in recent history, it certainly had plenty of big names making deep runs.

Full Tilt ran their Sunday trio, the $350k Brawl, $200k Mulligan, and $500k Guaranteed.  Those who follow the Sunday tournaments closely will realize that Bovada dropped the guarantee on their biggest weekly event to $250,000.  This was quite the shock to those who entered as all of PokerStars’ majors were kept at their full guarantee.

The $500k Guarantee attracted 2,805 entrants, including over 25 of Full Tilt’s very own professionals.  Michael Craig made the deepest run of the bunch, eventually busting in 71st place.  The final table had a few big names in the MTT world, including “herdgolf86,” a player consistently ranked in the top-100.  Here are the final table stacks:

Seat 1: Brian Stevens (398,896)
Seat 2: bigbubbava (208,610)
Seat 3: fooker323 (883,486)
Seat 4: xx BabyGrand xx (1,153,714)
Seat 5: mi30ke (566,578)
Seat 6: Antonio18 (1,434,298)
Seat 7: herdgolf86 (1,033,558)
Seat 8: Yeshaya (1,248,218)
Seat 9: PrishChips31 (1,487,642)

Up until this point herdgolf86 had won big score to his name, a win in the 109r on PokerStars for over $64,000. Joining herdgolf at the final table was “Yeshaya,” a player who has multiple $20,000+ scores to his name including a third place in the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance.   Eventually herdgolf86 held off “Antonio18” for the title and just over $100,000 in first place money.

The Sunday Brawl did not seem to suffer this past Sunday.  Some of this could be contributed to its earlier starting time, kicking off well before the Super Bowl’s actual kick-off.  A player who we will hear more from throughout the report is “Tomgus456.”  Tomgus456 has won the Sunday Brawl on PokerStars for over $84,000 and the Sunday Million on PokerStars for nearly $220,000 a year ago.   Tomgus had a busy Sunday, making deep runs in multiple events, including both the Brawl and the Mulligan on FullTilt and another major on PokerStars.  Unfortunately he was unable to make the final table in the Brawl, finishing as the bubble-boy in 10th place. However, the final table as not without some big firepower in the form of top-25 ranked “dipthrong.”  Dipthrong has a ton of big wins to his name including a victory in the $750k on FullTilt and the $250k on PokerStars.  He also has won the Sunday Mulligan on FullTilt.  Needless to say, he was definitely the favorite entering the final table.  Heads-up play came down to “asgeirt80” and dipthrong, with the underdog eventually coming out on top.

The final event of the day on FullTilt, the Sunday Mulligan, saw some more big names make the final table.  Tomgus456 made an appearance but unfortunately went out in 9th place, leaving him with a long and disappointing day on FullTilt.  One of the bigger names at the final table was “DaPokerGun,” another highly ranked player.  DaPokerGun has a win and a second place finish in the PokerStars 109r and a fifth place finish in the Sunday Warm-Up.  He made a nice run, eventually busting in 3rd place.  Heads-Up play came down to “fishhookn1” and “mdv85.” Eventually fishhookn1 would hook the biggest win of his career with a $45,000 first place check.  Runner-up mdv85 also had a lifetime best score, taking home $29,000 for 2nd place.

PokerStars tried its best to not be hurt by Super Bowl Sunday.  They kept all of their guarantees and big events such as the Million, Warm-Up, and Second Chance, an impressive feat on such a slow day.  First up, as always, was the Sunday Warm-Up.  The $750k guaranteed event has been gaining a ton of momentum lately, consistently being the 2nd biggest prize pool every Sunday this year.  This week 4068 players ponied up the $200+$15 buy-in creating a $813,600 prize pool.  This means that PokerStars had the two biggest events this Sunday by over $250,000.  One player who was no stranger to success entering the final table was “wurevolution.”  He already had one Sunday Major crown to his name, the $750k on Full Tilt, and he was looking to add a second.  Fortunately for the fans he was able to take hold of “pulse time” and take home the title and over $105,000 in first place money.  For most this would easily be a player’s biggest score, however, wurevolution took home over $132,000 for first in the $750k this past August.

4068 Entrants; $813,600 prize pool

The Sunday Million was able to reach its $1,500,000 Guarantee this week, by a lucky 13 players.  7513 participants built a $1,502,600 prize pool, still extremely impressive by this past Sunday’s standards.  The biggest names at the final table were “BodogAri” and “McLegend.”  Both players have multiple $20,000+ scores to their names and McLegend finished 2nd in a WCOOP event for over $100,000 last year.  Both players were in decent chip position entering the final table.  Here are the stacks and how each player busted:

The PokerStars Sunday Second Chance gives all MTTers one last chance to hit a big score this Sunday.  Just like the Million, the Second Chance found just enough players to reach their guarantee, 1253 to be exact.  One of the more proven players at the final table, “Quassi,” made a nice run only to find himself out in 4th place for just under $19,000.  “Dankness3” and “Raszi” both known for their cash-game skills also made nice runs in the event, finishing in 19th and 12th place respectively. Eventual winner “df1986” is also a solid MTT-Pro, having won the $109r on PokerStars and the $40k Guaranteed on Full Tilt in the past.  Here’s the final hand from the tournament:

The last two events covered on this report are the author’s favorite.  The $215 re-buy and the $500k events bring out the best players in the online-MTT world.  The final tables of these events are always stacked and provide some great poker for the viewing audience.  Next time you’re up late, make sure to check out the play at the final tables of these two events.

The Sunday 500 was the only event on PokerStars to not hit its guarantee this Sunday.  Only 930 players entered meaning PokerStars had to pay $35,000 in overlay.  There were many players at the final table with multiple $10,000+ scores to their name including “drag0nslay3r”, a player who tends to only play big buy-in events online.  PokerStars Pro VictorRamdin made a nice run but became the final table bubble-boy, finishing in 10th place.  In the end it was “jasken,” a relatively unknown player, who took down “jpmetalman” heads-up to take down the title and $91,500 in first place money.  Here’s the final hand and payouts:
