There was a noticeable drop in participation in some of the Sunday majors this weekend as many players may have taken some time off after a long FTOPS XI run over the past two weeks.  As always, the PokerStars Turbo Takedown was one of the bigger highlights on the last Sunday of the month.  The $1,000,000 prize pool is meant as a reward for players who have generated enough Frequent Player Points, of FPPs, through out the past month.  Players can only buy-in with these points, which are earned through raked pots in cash games or tournament fees.

Unfortunately the STR was unable to cover the final table; however, it would seem it was quite anti-climatic as there was a chip-chop deal with six players remaining.  In the end it was “annanoplay” who took home first place and just over $70,000 in prize money.  With no chop first place could have paid $100,000.  The Takedown pays 4,000 spots, meaning over 35% of the field gets paid.

The Sunday Warm-Up continues to build on recent success as this week the tournament came close to a $900,000 prize pool, well above the $750,000 guarantee.  One big name making a very deep run was Adam “Roothlus” Levy, the UB sponsored professional who is a top-100 ranked MTT Pro. Levy is already having a huge year after finishing 2nd in the FTOPS $5,000 buy-in two-day event for $387,500.  He still is with out a Sunday Major to his name but did win the Sunday $215r this past August.  Levy was in decent shape entering the final table but eventually busted in 3rd place, earning just over $53,000.  Heads-Up play came down to “UnXplainable” and “lrdvoldermort”.  Here’s the final hand and payouts:

Much like the Warm-Up the Sunday Million seems to be steadily growing as well.  This week 8800 entrants created a prize pool of $1,760,000.  For once it seemed the Sunday Million would play with out a chop.  Making the final table was “iggymcfly”, much more well-known for his Pot-limit Omaha prowess.  Another well-known professional was Jonathan “MONSTER_DONG” Karamalikis who entered the final table as one of the shorter stacks.  Karamalikis has a few big cashes to his name, including a win in the $100r on Stars and a second-place finish this past September in the Sunday 500.  Below are the final table stacks and all of the bust out hands.

The PokerStars 500 unfortunately saw quite a drop in participation this week as only 969 player entered.  Over the past month the tournament had consistently been reaching it’s guarantee of $500,000.  Luckily for the fans, what this tournament lacks in entrants, it more than makes up for in quality of players.  Two well known tournament professionals, including the top-ranked “Moorman1” made the final table.  Along with Moorman, Shaun Deeb also was a big threat entering final table play.  For those hiding under a rock Deeb won the PokerStars TLB last year, an award given to the most consistent tournament grinder over 12 months.  While that accomplishment is great it is tough to be the year Moorman had.  Chris Moorman won the $109r on Stars twice last year and already once this year.  He also won the $1k Monday on FullTilt and finished 3rd in the Sunday 500 this past August.

While Moorman had a great 2008 Deeb certainly had bigger scores across the board.  Deeb won the Sunday Warm-Up for $102,000, FTOPS Event #9 for $115,000 and WCOOP Event 25 for $144,000.  All in all this final table was stacked and with a great blind structure it was sure to be an epic battle.  Tournament play can be quite crazy at times, and much to the chagrin of the fans both of these huge names in online poker were unable to make it down to heads-up play.  Moorman busted in 5th place for a little over $26,000 while Deeb fared two spots better, busting in 3rd for $50,000.  Heads-Up play came down to “SSSSORRY” and “HotKarlMC”.  SSSSORRY did have a win in the Wednesday $150k on Stars over two years ago, however, between both players there has not been a lot of recent success.  Eventually “HotKarlMC” outlasted SSSSORRY to take down first place and $91,500.

Rounding out the day on PokerStars is the Sunday Second Chance.  The appropriately named tournament gives every last MTT Professional one last chance for a big score. The $250,000 guaranteed event attracted 1,448 players creating a $289,600 prize pool.  Eventual champion “VARICO” is no stranger to success on PokerStars having won the Super Tuesday multiple times as well as 4 wins in the $109r.  Overall he has made more than $350,000 in profit on PokerStars alone.  Heads-Up play came down to VARICE and “Gator93”, another highly-regarded professional.  The top-100 ranked Gator93 took second in the $1M Guaranteed on FullTilt this past Decemeber as well as winning this very event only two months ago. Needless to say the heads-up battle was well anticipated. In the end VARICO outlasted his competitor to take hom teh title and over $52,000:

FullTilt Poker, fresh off another success FTOPS, looked to continue building their Sunday tournaments.  This weekend all 3three major events easily surpassed their guarantees including a $800,000+ prize pool in the $750k guaranteed.

Kicking off the day was the Sunday Brawl.  The $240+$16 buy-in “KO” event pays $40 to a player every time he/she busts another from the tournament.  This week 2,294 players generated a healthy $458,800 prize pool, way about the $350,000 guarantee.  14 FullTilt sponsored professionals played in the event including high-stake cash game pro Brad Booth, WSOP ME Champion Huck Seed, and multiple WSOP bracelet winner Scott Fischman.  Soren Kongsagaard, part of FullTilt’s attempt to reach a global audience, made the deepest run before he was eliminated in 27th place earning just over $1,300.

The biggest event of the day on FullTilt continues to be the $750k Guaranteed.  The $200+$16 buy-in tournament attracted 4,048 entrants, creating a nice $809,600 prize pool with over $142,000 going to eventual winner “KingFish83”.  29 FullTilt professionals, icluding Richard “CHUFTY” Ashby, past PCA winner Ryan Daut, and WSOP bracelet-holder Erick Lindgren entered the event.  Red-pro Mandy B made a very nice run busting in 17th place for just over $4,000.  A few big names made the final table including “Julian Verse” and “govshark2”. Verse won the FTOPS Main Event last year and govshark2 won the Sunday Million this past October.  Both players failed to reach heads-up play, which eventually came down to KingFish83 abd “Majchi”.  In the end KingFish held on for the victory and nearly $143,000.
