Online tournaments continue to roll along as there appears to be no drop off in between FTOPS/WCOOP and the upcoming Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) held on PokerStars. While tournaments have fallen off ever so slightly in march they are still stronger than they were in 2009. A special shout out goes to Dthorne04, former author of the STR, for making a deep run in the Sunday lotto ($10 buy-in 36,000+ players) yesterday, falling just short  of the final table.

The day kicked off with the Sunday Warm-Up which saw nearly 4,700 players create a $939,000 prize pool. While the Warm-Up has not been able to sustain a $1,000,000 prize pool is has routinely kept its spot as the 2nd biggest tournament of the weekend. Unfortunately this week, with the FullTilt upping its $750k to $1M, the Warm-Up finds itself in unfamiliar territory, the 3-hole. Well as they say, the show must go on, and what a show it was. “theConcept79” and “weriol” were the final two players standing and it took a while to determine a winner. When the dust finally settled in was TheConcept79 taking home the title and more than $147,000.

The biggest name at the final table, Luke “IWEARGOGGLES” Staudenmaier (playing under “LukeFromB13”) took 8th place and nearly $12,000.  One of the better tournament professionals in the world, Staudenmaier has shipped numerous 6-figure scores including a win in the $750k  and a 2nd in the $1M Guarantee on FullTilt. He also nearly won FTOPS Event #17 back in 2008, taking 3rd for $119,543.  Overall he has more than $2,000,000 in career cashes between PokerStars and FullTilt alone.  On the live scene Luke nearly won a WPT, taking 3rd in Bellgaio Cup IV for $452,465.

The Sunday Million was the only major on PokerStars to be chopped yesterday, and it was merely a HU chip-chop at that.  Perhaps everyone is tired of a certain STR author complaining about their lack of intestinal fortitude. Arthur “allaces43” Bailey and Mr Brizza decided to an even chop for $213,000 and play for an additional $30,000 which went to Mr Brizza.  This was by far and away both players biggest scores, as neither had a $20k cash on PokerStars to their name entering the final table.  Below you will find the final table starting stacks, bust-out hands, and chop-adjusted pay-outs:

The last major to finish yesterday was the deepstack $500k guaranteed. The Sunday500 has been a staple on PokerStars Sunday schedule the past few years and tends to bring in great final tables full of well-known professionals. One of those well-known pros, Chad Brown, nearly shipped the $500k yesterday.  Brown is a famous live poker professional who seems to make WSOP final tables routinely.  He has nearly $3,000,000 in live earnings including a win in the 2009 Gulf Coast Poker Championship for $225,567. He nearly won the $10k Limit Hold’em championship at last year’s WSOP, taking 3rd for $188,855.  Brown once again found himself in 3rd as he busted behind Jason “jakoon1985” Koon and Kyle “Marinersheep” Huffman for $50,255.

9th place finisher “bobboufl11” has had a lot of success on FullTilt including a 3rd in FTOPS Event #15 last November for $54,785. Koon and Huffman took part of a solid battle that ended up going Koon’s way to the tune of $91,305.  While this is quite a nice score, it pales in comparison to his win in SCOOP Event #17 last year for $302,000. Huffman is no slouch himself, having more than a handful five-figure scores to his name including a win in the $40k re-buy on FullTilt a few weeks ago for $14,607.

The Sunday $215r continues to deliver awesome final tables full of internet professionals with great resumes. Among the big names this week were Stuart “thedonator” Patterson, Greg “DuckU” Hobson, Pat “TorontoToro” Pezzin, Nicolas “PKaiser” Fierro, Ben “Waters81” Waters, and “aaaaaaaa”. DuckU nearly won the $500k guaranteed WCOOP Event #16 last year, taking 3rd and more than $140,000. He has won the $150k deepstack on UB multiple times as well as the $80k on Stars. Fierro has won the $200k re-buy on FullTilt and nearly won the Second Chance in January before falling in 3rd place for $26,000. aaaaaaaa has made our report numerous times for wins in the Second Chance and other major final tables. Finally, Pezzin has more than $1,000,000 in cashes between FullTilt and PokerStars including a win in the Wednesday $250k for $80,080

By the time heads-up play began it was aaaaaaaa and Fierro who found themselves battling over $41,779 and some serious bragging rights. In the end it was Pkaiser who found just enough of a hand to call it off late and then hit runner-runner to bust aaaaaaaa for the title.

The latest starting major of the day, the Sunday Second Chance, ended before all of the other majors except the Warm-Up. There weren’t too many big names at the final table and a relative unknown, “corsica36”, was able to take down the title with out a chop and shipped $54,264 in the process. Runner-up “Gambit360” appeared to be the more experienced player, having won the $11r and finishing 2nd in the $55r and 3rd in the $109r in the past, but he was unable to bust his amateur opponent and took home $39,254 for his second-place finish.

Two FullTilt sponsored professionals found their way to the Sunday Brawl final table. In all the time doing the STR I cannot remember this happening before. Marco Liesy and Martin Klaeser were both on hand to battle it out for more than $102,000 in first place money. Unfortunately neither player lasted very long as Liesy fell in 8th for $8,106 and Klaeser busted shortly thereafter in 7th place for $11,652. Other professionals on hand were Isaac “Menlo” Baron, newly single Erica Schoenberg, and WSOP November Nine member Scotty Montgomery.

For once the player with the most bust-outs did not win the brawl. In fact, “deuceballz” was only 8th on the KO list but still managed to win the Brawl and take home $102,480. His 12 knock-outs netted him an extra $480 while runner-up ColdNuts99 busted 17 people which gave him $680 and a free entry into next week’s tournament.

FullTilt decided to up the ante, so to speak, on the $750k yesterday. Instead of the normal guarantee, FullTilt added $250k more to the prize pool and increased the buy-in to $535. There ended up being about half as many players as usual but with the larger entry fee the tournament prize pool was considerably larger than most weeks.

Jeremy “endlessj83” Menard, a top-100 ranked poker pro, claimed the title and more than $180,000. This was his first major win on FullTilt as he put the sting of a runner-up finish in the Brawl last year behind him. Overall he has nearly $500,000 in cashes on FullTilt alone. Isaac Baron made a deep run as a representative of FullTilt but was unable to reach the final table as he busted in 29th. Baron was joined by fellow FullTilt pros Johan Storakers, Erica Schoenberg, and Christian Kruel who all made the money.

Finishing the day off was the Sunday Mulligan. For the 3rd time this month the player known as boobySMILES on PokerStars and “UgotaBanana” on FullTilt found his way deep in a Sunday major. While he had been best known for his PLO prowess, UgotaBanana has been crushing online tournaments lately. His aggressive style from cash games has translated well and he has won two majors in March and nearly won his 3rd yesterday. Just two weeks ago he won this very event and late last night he took 2nd for $37,856.

Despite a strong contingent of FullTilt professionals on hand, none could break the top-100 or the money. Coming the closest was Joao Barbosa who busted in 207th place.
