For the first time in a while, online tournaments saw a bit of a drop in participation this week. Perhaps it could be players “resting” up for the looming SCOOP Series on PokerStars. The “Spring Championship of Online Poker” will have buy-in levels for all players, including some extremely high-stakes tournaments.
Getting the day rolling was the Sunday Warm-Up on PokerStars. A familiar face, Corwin “mig.com” Mackey made a deep run all the way to heads-up play. Unfortunately a sick bad beat left him settling for 2nd place and a $78,000 pay-day. The top-100 ranked MTT Professional nearly eclipsed his previous best score of $90,750 from a win in the $1k Monday on FullTilt. He has won the $109r on Stars twice as well. His opponent “Buton77” did not have much of a track-record online, having no other big scores to his name. It just goes to show you that on any given Sunday an amateur can take down one of the world’s best with a little bit of luck on their side.

The latest finishing tournament on PokerStars in the Sunday 500. The $500,000 guaranteed event had been reaching its guarantee for the past few months. Unfortunately the streak was broken today as only 990 players signed up, forcing PokerStars to bay $5,000 in overlay.
