Online tournaments continue to roll on as FTOPS XVI and SCOOP loom in the near future.  The 16th installment of the Full Tilt Online Poker Series begins April 23rd and runs for into May. The two tournaments actually overlap as SCOOP begins before FTOPS ends. Perhaps trying to boost some action for the upcoming week, FullTilt decided to up the ante on their biggest weekly event, turning the $750k into a $1,000,000 guaranteed event.

That bump in the guarantee meant the Sunday Warm-Up on PokerStars would have to slide into the #3 slot this weekend. although through no fault of its down. Over 4,500 players entered the earliest major of the day, helping the tournament surpass the $900,000 prize pool mark once again.  The final table failed to produce any huge names but did have a bunch of solid tournament players vying for a $142,261 first place prize. Luckily for the rail there would be no chop this week as “fazi608” outlasted “iveygotstaks” for the title. This was the biggest victory of his career, easily besting his win in the $109r a few years ago for $32,423.

The Sunday Million fell victim to the chop-bug this weekend but you could not really blame the three players involved. Once “elitelive” was eliminated in 4th place all three had nearly identical chip stacks and decided to cut out some variance and guarantee themselves a $175k payday. There was still $30,000 on the table and that extra cash went to “speedy0308” who took down “KenshoSatori” during heads-up play. Neither play had seen a ton of success on PokerStars but speedy0308 was certainly the more experienced of the two. He had final tabled a few $109r’s the past few years including a 3rd place worth $8,225.  Below are the final table stacks, bust-out hands, and chop-adjusted pay-outs:

The $530 Sunday $500k Guaranteed continues to produce great final tables full of world-class tournament professionals. It will be interesting to see just how big this event gets in the upcoming weeks as PokerStars begins to benefit from all of their SCOOP promotions. Some of the more notable names at the final table were top-100 ranked “DonkCommited” and “imdanuts”. Joining them was  “FatsoFat6969” and Alex “msusyr24” Carr. ImDaNuts took home the title and nearly $88,000.  This was his biggest score on PokerStars on a resume that already includes more than a dozen five-figure scores including three wins in the $109r. 3rd place finisher DonkCommited added another big score to an impressive resume that includes a handful of $20k+ scores including wins in many midstakes events and a few wins in the $109r. Former Sunday Second Chance winner “msusyr24” took down 4th place for $35,713.

Michael “YrrsiNN” Huber crashed the final table of the $215r yesterday taking 2nd place behind “vuppi”. This was just another big score for Huber who won the FullTilt $1M last December after nearly winning the Brawl the month before. On PokerStars he has wins in the $55r and $100 cubed for $37k and $32k respectively.  Sixth-place finisher “bdybldngpkr” is no stranger to success on Stars as well having won the $500k last May as well as the Second Chance in 2008.  Coming in 5th place was “jiacstrap” who nearly won the Million in 2008 finishing in 4th for $71,308. Eventual winner vuppi took down the 2nd biggest score of his career, well behind a $60,131 win in the $109r back in December 2008.

The final event of the day on PokerStars found three solid tournament professionals battling it out for a $53,831 first place check. “PokerNoob999”, “a$$ou”, and “OKTime4PlanB” were quite chatty at the final table as they tried to determine a chip-chop with players giving little ground. It would seem PokerNoob999 had the most experience as he won the high-stakes heads-up event in last year’s SCOOP for more than $133,000 after chopping the final match. He has other major victories in the $500k, Super Tuesday, Second Chance, and $109r.  Eventual winner a$$ou also had a major win to his name entering the final table, a $149k score for shipping the Sunday Warm-up last October. One other player of note at the final table was “Bill Ivey” who plays both high stakes cash games and tournaments, having won nearly $1.5M on PokerStars alone.

With the $750k becoming a bigger buy-in, $1M guarantee, the largest of the Sunday majors on FullTilt was actually the $240+$16 Sunday Brawl. For those unfamiliar with “KO” events, players are awarded $40 every time he/she eliminates a fellow competitor. This can add up quickly and usually results in $600 or so extra for the winner.  Seventeen FullTilt sponsored professionals played in the Brawl including Lee Watkinson, Aaron Bartley, and Ram Vaswani. Watkinson, who min-cashed, was the only FullTilt Pro to make the money.  Joe “jpmetalman” Patrick took 2nd place for over $71,000. This was one of the biggest scores of his career, coming in just behind an $80,250 cash back in 2007. John “BlackFours” May finished in 5th place for nearly $28,000.  He has seen success on both FullTilt and PokerStars having won the $75k and $109r on the two sites. Mike “SuperUsed” Reisner finished in 8th place for $8,714.

The normal $200+$16 was turned into the $500+$35 $1,000,000 guarantee yesterday. FullTilt tends to do this once a month and while the prize pool is larger due to the bigger buy-in size it usually cuts the field in half. This typically leads to a much stronger field and a pretty good final table for the railbirds. This week was no exception as a handful of well-known poker pros were on hand looking to take down the $193,384 first place prize. The bigger buy-in also attracted more FullTilt “red pros” as nearly 30 entered the day’s biggest event.  Some of the bigger names on hand were Brandon Adams, Isaac Baron, and Scott Clements. TheWaceKidd made a deep run but fell in 44th place.

Three of the bigger names at the final table were “ElMastermind”, Greg “DuckU” Hobson, and Joshua “pbdrunks” VanDuyn.  VanDuyn has more than $1.2M in scores on FullTilt alone including more than 10 $20k+ scores to his name. Hobson is just as decorated on FullTilt having won an FTOPS event and many other big buy-in tournaments back in 2007 and 2008 ElMastermind ended up winning the $1M guarantee after chopping with a big chip-lead when 3-handed play began. He took home more than $176,921 for the victory which trumps a win in the Brawl in 2008 for the biggest score of his career. He has many other wins on FullTilt including multiple victories in the $109r.

He has nearly $3,000,000 in tournament cashes between FullTilt and PokerStars over the past few years including three scores of more than $120,000. He was joined in this event by a handful of FullTilt professionals, four of whom finished in the top-100. Aaron Bartley (63rd), Jon Turner (86th), Mandy B (43rd), and Stuart Paterson (77th) all made the money but failed to reach the final table.
