With another FTOPS looming this past Sunday served as a bit of a warm-up for all the online tournament professionals. This week some big names made deep runs in bigger events and, for the first time in a while, finished with a victory. FullTilt and PokerStars continue to lead the way in terms of volume and guaranteed prize pools on Sunday. While both sites seem to be carrying the torch for online tournament they have both been struggling in some of their bigger tournaments. Lately, the $750k on FullTilt has been failing to reach it’s guarantee, and this past Sunday was no exception.
The PokerStars Warm-Up kicked off another day of intense tournament grinding. Unlike many other tournaments the Warm-Up has consistently passed it’s guarantee by a safe margin. The final table failed to give a big-name winner although a few notable tournament grinders collected a nice finish. “I_destr0y_U” and “CNT_CRUSHER” finished in 4th and 5th place respectively. The Sunday Million continued to reach it’s guarantee, albeit barely, with 7759 entrants this past weekend. The final table was devoid of any huge names which tends to be a great sign for the MTT Community. Eventual winner “sasa80” had trouble with the chop numbers, prompting stars to bring in an Italian translator. Eventually nothing was settled and he went on to win, taking home $232,770 for his efforts. This is quite a big jump from his previous high cash of $1,408 on PokerStars! It’s quite difficult to understand how PokerStars can generate more than double the entries for similar buy-in tournaments starting near the same time; however, one might point to FullTilt’s satellite structure.
