With one Sunday before PokerStars big Porsche giveaway, tournaments saw their lowest participation in a long time.  Only three of the eight majors reached their guarantee including the Warm-Up, Brawl, and Mulligan.  The Sunday Million saw quite a drop in attendance, missing their guarantee by over 300 participants.  Hopefully the running of the Turbo Takedown next Sunday brings some more players to PokerStars.  This week some big names made deep runs, only to find themselves out early at the final tables.

Getting the day going was the PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up.  The tournament just barely reached its guaranteed, by 30 entrants.   The final table was devoid of many big names including the final two players, “HustlerGrune” and “erot1”.  Neither player had a $20,000 score to their name, and going into heads-up play they were each guaranteed at least a $88,000 pay day. The final hand came down to a bit of a cooler, with QQ holding against 88 for the win and a $118,692 score for HustlerGrune.

The Sunday Million saw a PokerStars sponsored professional make the final table in Andree “Aakkari” Akkari.  Unfortunately, for all of his fans, he busted in 9th place earning nearly $12,000 for a hard days work.   “Philipoo” and “KipsterDK” were set to battle it out for first place.  While first place paid $225,000 it did not come within $40,000 of KipsterDK’s best score, a $272,000 win in a $530 buy-in event in April 2008.  That experience seemed to pay off as he was able to take down another huge win and bring his career earning on PokerStars to nearly $600,000.  Below are the final table stacks, bust-out hands, and payouts:

Another player with a tremendous amount of success was set to make another big score.  “fergwrx” had accumulated over $725,000 in prizes before last night as he headed into the final table of the Sunday 500.  Standing in this was a solid final table, including his heads-up opponent “ZEMBALOUIE”.   The last hand came down to a bit of a bad beat, with pocket 5’s busting pocket Tens for the win.  This was fergwrx’s biggest score and his 8th $20,000+ score of his career on PokerStars alone.

One of the biggest names in online tournaments made an appearance at the final table of the PokerStars $215r last night.  Shaundeeb, winner of the PokerStars TLB last year, has been focusing more on bigger buy-in tournaments this year and it almost paid off in a big way yesterday.   Unfortunately Deeb busted in 5th place for a $12,000 pay day.  Heads-up came down to “jono3101” and “genetodd” with the more experienced jono3101 taking down the title and $43,000.  This was his biggest score, eclipsing a $36,000 cash last July in a $162 buy-in event.

The final event of the day on Stars, as always, was the Sunday Second Chance.  The $250,000 guarantee tournament gives everyone a final shot at a large score each Sunday.  “MezmerizePLZ”, a high-stakes cash game regular made a nice run before busting in 4th place for over $18,000.  This was his 4th biggest score, as he typically only plays majors and WCOOP Event on PokerStars.  Heads-up came down to “BluNTzz549” and “SetofKs”, two players who have had strong success on PokerStars in the past despite not having a huge score to their name.   A rivered gutshot was all it took for SetofKs to take down the title and nearly $46,000 in first place money.

FullTilt kept their trend of reaching guarantees in the Brawl and Mulligan while missing the $750k alive yesterday with a nice showing in the two smaller tournaments. 17 FullTilt Sponsored Professionals played in the Brawl including Mike “Timex” McDonald, Scott Fischman, and Brad “Cool Million” Booth.   One big name in the SNG world, “spacegravy” made the final table but busted in 9th place.  He is best known for attempting to complete a prop bet involving winning an enormous amount of money at the $55+5 turbos on PokerStars.  He was unable to complete the bet but was still able to reach Supernova Elite status, which brings a large amount of bonuses.  Heads-up came down to “babbelz” and “RipperC”.  The final hand proved to be a tough one, with babbelz hitting a flush on the river to take home the title and over $82,000.

Once again the $750k fell short of its guarantee, this time by over 100 entrants.  FullTilt was not to be blamed as 36 FullTilt Red Pro’s played in the event including Andy Bloch, Brandon Adams, and Isaac “Menlo” Baron.  The final table failed to provide any big names, especially the final two competitors – “badboypony” and “tophy4life”.  Neither player has had much success on FullTilt in the past but that was all about to change, as 2nd place guaranteed at least a $80,250 day.  Taking home the title and over $132,000 was tophy4life, becoming his only notable score of his career.

The final tournament this past Sunday was the $200k Guaranteed Sunday Mulligan.  Fourteen of FullTilt’s finest, including Rafe Furst, Stuart Paterson, and David Pham played in the day’s final major.  Pham made a nice run before falling in 25th place.  Three other pro’s made the money including Mike McDonald, Scott Fischman, and Michael Craig.  A player from last week’s report, “bdybldngpkrplyr”, made the final table and finished runner-up to “kkongo”, who had by far and away his biggest score of his career on FullTilt.
