FTOPS XIII came to an end yesterday, and with it a huge day of tournaments commenced. Both the FTOPS Main Event and $2500 two-day event were slated to finish Sunday and both produced exciting finishes.
The first event finishing yesterday was the $2,500 two-day event, which was full of big name professionals including Phil Ivey and 38 other FullTilt sponsored professionals. One of those pros, Brian “Stinger88” Hastings, made it all the way down to heads-up. Stinger is considered one of the toughest online cash game players and can regularly be seen playing $500/$1000 PLO on FullTilt. His opponent, “psutennis11”, nearly shipped the Sunday Warm-Up on PokerStars last week, finishing 2nd. In the end it was psutennis11 who took down the 2-day event and over $453,000.

The FTOPS Main Event exploded yesterday, with over 5,300 players creating a $2,653,000 prize pool, $453,663 of which going to first place. A record-breaking 60 FullTilt Red Pro’s played the event, including Eli Elezra, Gus Hansen, Ryan Daut, and Allen Cunningham. Three professionals, James Akenhead (98th), Diego Cordovez (44th), and Martin Klaeser (68th) finished inside the top 100. James Obst, most well known as AndyMcleod (TheFatFISH on FullTilt), made yet another final table appearance in a Major Event. Unfortunately he had to “settle” for a mere $127,211 cash for 5th place. Eventual winner “Poligraph” took down a huge first-place check, much bigger than his previous best, a $10k cash in the Super Turbo in June.

Some big names in online poker were on hand for the final table of the Sunday500 including winner Ravi “govshark2” Raghavan, a top-50 ranked online professional. The $100,000 first place check was his second biggest score behind a win in the Million for $184,5000 last October. Along with those two huge scores he has six other $20,000 cashes to his name. Finishing in 2nd was lesser known “GulahPapyrus” who took 5th place in this event earlier this year.

Closing out another nice day for PokerStars was the Sunday Second Chance. Although the tournament guarantee was dropped a few months ago, this event has not slowed down one bit. In fact, the tournament seems to be growing each week and is creeping up on the $300,000 prize pool mark. The two biggest names making the final table yesterday were PokerStars pro JC Alvarado and high-stakes limit professional “Vandiesel”. Both players made nice runs but busted in 4th and 3rd place respectively. “sexygee”, another solid player, was able to outlast “ael1979” for the title and nearly $54,000. This was his second biggest score, behind a SCOOP win in April for only $500 more.
