Monday 1st February – When the red dust settles Team Betfair will look back on the Aussie Millions tournament in Melbourne with great pride. This year it took over 25 players to the Aussie Millions including its three sponsored pros Annette Obrestad, Sorel Mizzi and John Tabatabai who all cashed during the event.
Annette Obrestad started off the winning streak by taking down Event Four before going deep in the Main Event where she found herself on the final table with fellow pro Sorel Mizzi. Although she finished an admirable 7th (she came 21st in the Main Event last year) it will be Mizzi who is the most disappointed. Going into the final day he had a six to one chip lead over his nearest rivals but a succession of suck outs and a bad run of cards meant that he had to settle for 3rd place and $750,000. Although hugely disappointed this now puts his career earnings to well over $2 million as well as being his biggest cash to date.
