Yes, it’s that time of year already. Anyone who’s anyone in the poker world is either already in Las Vegas, or planning their trip. Their goal? To win lots of money, and add the line WSOP Title to their résumés.

American, Greg Merson, is both the reigning Main Event champion, and the Player of the Year. Last year he took home two bracelets, one for the main Event, and one for Event #57, the $10k NLHE 6-Max.

The World Series is the biggest event in the Poker calendar, and all the number associated with the yearly spectacular are appropriately large.

Last year saw 61 bracelet events, one less that the 62 planned for this year. These 61 events saw $222,045,377 distributed as prizes, with $18,346,673 the biggest prize for the winner of last year’s One Drop Event.

Across all the events there were 74,766 entries, and 7,973 of those entries got a return on their money as they cashed in a bracelet event.

The Main Event had 6,598 entries, and the next biggest event was #59 with 4,620. 101 countries were represented on the Rio’s poker felt, and 13 countries had players taking home new jewellery.

This year starts, as usual, with the Casino Employee Event, a $500 buy in tournament only open to those working in the casino industry. This Event starts at Noon Las Vegas local time today, and will have it’s final table tomorrow.

Event #2 also starts today, and is the $5,000 NLHE 8-Max event, planned to take place over 4 days. the Final table for this will be on Sunday.

FTR will be bringing you a round up from every Final Table, and a daily round up from the rest of the action.

The Final Tables will be streamed by WSOP.com, and will be available here for your enjoyment.
