With FTOPS XIV coming to a roaring finish, this past weekend was chalk-full of big buy-in huge guarantee tournaments. Both FullTilt and PokerStars completely dominated the online poker scene, as the FTOPS Main Event and the Sunday Million both cleared $2,500,000 in entry fees. Needless to say, a few lives were changed yesterday.

PokerStars was able to capitalize on the FTOPS popularity, much like FullTilt did earlier this year with the WCOOP. The Sunday Warm-Up kicked off a record-breaking day of tournaments. The Warm-Up has been flirting with the Million Dollar prize pool mark, and some thought yesterday might be the day. Unfortunately tournament goers had to settle for a “measly” $952,600 prize pool and a $149,018 first place check. Battling for the $150k was “Titantom32” and “egor2077”. The experience edge was with Tom, as he already have 4 $50,000+ scores to his name before this final table including a win the the Sunday500. Egor2077 had not been as fortunate, as this score was by far and away the biggest cash of his short career. In the end it was a bit of a cooler, 2pr vs. 2pr, that gave egor2077 the win and $149,000:

There were big plans for the Sunday Million yesterday as PokerStars attempted to make a “landmark” event, with their biggest prize pool and number of entrants. Eventually 18,283 players entered the event, crushing previous records and creating a $3,656,600 prize pool, also a new record. What’s amazing is even with FTOPS XIV running, the Million still managed to crush every FTOPS event, easily taking the largest prize pool of the day. Like most Sunday Millions lately, this one was over before the final cards were dealt, as a big chip-chop guarantee the top 6 players at least $144,000. With only $30,000 left on the table the action was furious, and it left “Zadman5311” with the victory and over $282,000 in cash. Below are the final table stacks, bust-out hands, and chop adjusted pay-outs:

The Sunday500 also saw a nice boost in attendance yesterday, as the tournament eclipsed 1,200 players for the first time in some while. One of the biggest names making the final table was also the first to bust in Christian “charder30” Harder. Harder won a Bellgio Cup Event in July for over $204,000 and also took 4th in the WPT Five-Star Poker Classic in April for over $571,000. Online Harder is just as dominant. Ranked in the top-50 in the world, Harder has finished 2nd in this very event twice. His biggest victories came in the Wednesday Quarter Million and the $109r. Eventual winner “mysterio6044” is also no stranger to success on PokerStars, as he final-tabled two SCOOP events in April, earning more than $20,000 in each. This cash appears to be the biggest of his online career.

The $215r had a few huge names grace its final table including “apestyles”, “All_in_at420”, “govshark2”, and PiKappRaider. Both apestyles and PiKappRaider are ranked ranked inside the top 100 while Govshark2 is currently a top-10 ranked online tournament professional. Apestyles’ biggest score is a 3rd place finish in the Warm-Up for $67,650 in August. Govshark2 has one six-figure score to his name, a win in the Sunday500 also in August for $100,470. PiKappRaider puts both of those scores to shame, as he has two $200,000+ scores including a win in February’s FTOPS Event #17 for $245,696 and a win in the $1M Guarantee for just over $200,000.

Taking home the title was “JRD312” after he busted apestyles in a nice heads-up battle. He is no stranger to success himself, as this was only the 3rd biggest score of his career on PokerStars, well behind wins in the Second Chance and $109r for $86k and $92k respectively.

Closing out a strong day of tournaments on PokerStars was the Sunday Second Chance. The final major of the day attracted more than 1,500 players, surpassing the $300,000 prize pool mark in the process. After a slow start to 2009 this tournament has caught fire as of late, with huge prize pools and $50,000 first place prizes. Heads-up play came down to “vovo_leo” and “WhoGivzABuck”, two relatively unknown players who haven’t made much noise as of late. In the end WhoGivzABuck took down his biggest score ever as his K7s was able to outrun his opponents A8o for the victory:
