Online tournaments continued to move in the right direction this past weekend as both PokerStars and FullTilt saw a nice boost in attendance during their Sunday majors. Without a major tournament series on the horizon the Sunday Million and FullTilt Sunday $1,000,000 guaranteed will highlight the weekend tournament report through the rest of 2010.

Sunday got off to a strong start with the $750,000 guaranteed Warm-Up on PokerStars garnering more than 4,500 players. The day’s 2nd largest event amassed a large $917,600 prize pool with over $143,000 slated for the champion. A former Sunday Million champion was on hand at the final table in “Peetoon” who shipped a massive $245,700 score just months ago in the week’s biggest event. Unfortunately he was unable to replicate his win and busted in 5th place earning just under $39,000 for his efforts.

Heads-up play came down to “John806” and “Doeks” with about $37,000 on the line for the winner. Neither player had seen a whole lot of success on PokerStars in the past, but the experience edge seemed to lie with Doeks who earlier this month finished 2nd in a $55 buy-in event for $15,175. John806 seemed relatively untested on Stars and in the end it showed as he was unable to challenge Doeks and had to settle for 2nd place and a $106,900 payday.

The Sunday Million took the momentum from the Warm-Up and turned it into a great showing as the prize pool nearly hit the $1,600,000 mark late Sunday afternoon. The final table ended quite early as the last three players decided upon a chip-chop which left just $30,000 on the table. 3rd-place finisher “ggman2” is more known for his cash game abilities than his MTT prowess but that all changed with a $161,868 payday. Runner-up “par4mindy” was another player without much tournament success who made a life-changing score with a guaranteed $157,923 after the deal. Sunday Million champion “Sherkadil” took home the biggest piece of the pie after the chop and topped it off with an additional $30,000 after winning the three-handed winner-take-all SNG. The $215,477 score was by far and away the biggest cash of his/her career and one of the biggest scores of 2010. Below are the final-table stacks, bust-out hands, and chop-adjusted pay-outs:

One of the better final tables of the month, if not year, could be found yesterday during the Sunday500. The $500,000 guaranteed even attracted just over 1,050 players creating a $525,500 prize pool. The final table was stacked from top to bottom with great players including “AJKHoosier1”, “mement_more” and eventual “winner” “shampusik”. While shampusik did not technically win the tournament he did take home the biggest pay-out after a chop with “bluffdeez503”. The players were still forced to play out the final hand for Tournament Leaderboard points but in the end the cash is all that really matters. Coming in 2nd was Kyle “bluffdeez503” Zartman who is another solid tournament professional with a great resume. The victory for Zartman highlights a career that includes wins in the Monday $1k on FullTilt as well as the $200k on FTP and the $150k on Absolute Poker. Third place finisher Mickey “mementmori” Petersen took home a $49,923 check which does not even crack his lifetime top-5 scores. The high-stakes tourney pro earned a $161,660 payday in this year’s $2,100 SCOOP Event #19 for his runner-up finish.

One of the biggest names in online cash games made a bit of a splash on the tournament scene late Sunday as PokerStars professional Randy “nanonoko” Lew took down the week’s biggest re-buy tournament, the $150k guaranteed Sunday $215r. The Supernova Elite grinder known for crushing $2/$4 through $25/$50 has made millions in midstakes cash games but had yet to ship a major online event. His biggest hurdle came from Jeremiah “Believer82” Vinsant, a highly-regarded tournament professional best known for winning the $1k Monday on FullTilt three times as well as the Sunday500. The heads-up battle was made even more interesting by the fact that Lew was hosting the Sunday Million final table which includes announcing bust-outs as well as mediating any chip chops. Pulling double duty was hardly a challenge for Lew who routinely 24-tables online 6max games against tough competition. There were a bunch of swings between the two players with some nasty bad beats being handed out but in the end Lew found himself the last man standing and earned $37,582 for a long day’s work.

The final event of the day on PokerStars capped off a strong day on the world’s largest online poker site. The $250,000 guaranteed Sunday Second Chance nearly cracked the $300,000 mark with 1,454 entrants ponying up the $200+$15 buy-in. James “jcamby33” Campbell, a world renowned tournament professional, took down the final table and a $52,576 check. One of just a handful of multiple $200,000 scores to his name, Campbell has proven time and again to be part of the upper echelon of MTT pros. His win in the Sunday Million in 2007 still rates as the biggest victory of his career but a $237,650 score for finishing 2nd in SCOOP Event #37 earlier this year rates as the biggest cash on an impressive resume. Runner-up “pokerbrat13” was a bit over-matched against Campbell but had seen success on Stars in the past having nearly won the Million in 2008 as well as the Sunday500 in 2009. This was the 2nd time he nearly won the Second Chance with a 3rd place finish last July also on his resume.

The Sunday Brawl on FullTilt was technically the biggest high-stakes tournament of the week with the $1,000,000 guaranteed attracting a smaller field due to its larger buy-in. With more than 2,700 players on hand in the $240+$16 Knock-Out tournament the Brawl amassed a $547,800 prize pool. On top of the prize pool players earned $40 every time they eliminated a fellow competitor. Players could also win a FullTilt t-shirt for busting any of the 35 FullTilt sponsored professionals on hand. Some of the more notable players included Vitaly Lunkin, Andrew “luckychewy” Lichtenberger, David Pham, and Allen Cunningham. Hans Vogl took the honors as the low professional after busting in 108th place.

A well known professional, Alex “Kadabra” Keating, was able to outlast the massive field and earn a big $111,203 payday. The former SCOOP, FTOPS, $1k Monday, and $215 re-buy winner was certainly no stranger to success and put his past experience to good use against a solid final table. This was the third six-figure score of his career and further cemented his place as one of the best MTT players in online history.

The highlight of the day on FullTilt was the robust $1,000,000 guarantee. The $1M took the place of the $750k which typically carries a $200+$16 buy-in but was bumped to $600+$40 to help reach the bigger guarantee. The bigger entry fee meant only 1667 players needed to enter to reach the guarantee which was easily surpassed when nearly 1,900 players ponied up $640. Among the FullTilt contingent on hand included Isaac “menlo” Baron, Ram Vaswani, and Stuart Paterson. Maciek Gracz was able to crack the top-50 but could not make it to the final table before busting in 42nd place.

Eventual winner “0—–BM—–0” earned the biggest piece of the chip-chop pie after he, “ArdillaRoja”, and “skanky980” ended the tournament once play became three handed. The $168,306 score was easily the biggest of his career and the same can be said for both of his opponents. In fact none of the three had the previous success you might expect out of those at the final table of a $640 event but it just goes to show how many good players are out there that have not broken through just yet. Keep an eye out for these three in the future as players who could make an even bigger splash on the online tournament scene.

Rounding out the trio of Sunday majors on FullTilt was the appropriately named Sunday Mulligan. The $200+$16 buy-in event gives all grinders one final shot at a big Sunday score which nearly hit the $60,000 mark yesterday. The $200,000 guaranteed event has been passing the $250,000 mark with regularity lately and makes those who frequent FullTilt wonder if the guarantee will be bumped any time soon. More than 20 FullTilt professionals were on hand in the day’s final event including Isaac Baron who nearly cracked the top 100 before busting in 101st place. Joining Baron in the money was Marco Liesy who made a nice run before finally falling in 43rd place.

TJ “DarkHorse19” Ulmer was one of the bigger names at the final table but his run ended rather abruptly in 8th place. The former $1k Monday and Wednesday Quarter Million winner was certainly no stranger to online success but could not get much going at the Mulligan final table. Eventual winner “MISSPRODIGY” was relatively new to FullTilt before earning a $59,928 first-place check early Monday morning. With just a handful of events under his/her belt MISSPRODIGY is certainly one of those great Cinderella stories online poker series create each and every weekend.
